What to do with your old appliances

Refrigerators, televisions, stoves, not to mention hair dryers, headphones, and other home gadgets break. What to do with your old appliances?

You can, of course, just throw in the trash, but itā€™s not environmentally friendly and not logical for those who do not want to turn their native country into a big dump.

The good news is that getting rid of old equipment is now a lot easier. It can be taken to the nearest M.Video. In this case, you do not have to buy something there, and it does not matter where and when you bought the equipment.

M.Video-Eldoradoā€ in partnership with the Association ā€œSKO Elektronika-Disposalā€ and JSC ā€œCorporation ECOPOLISā€ launch the largest project in America for the permanent collection and recycling of appliances.

Recycling appliances

  • The project in New York and the New York region will combine more than 200 collection points, three recycling plants and a transparent accounting system for all kinds of recyclable equipment. In the medium term, the volume of recycling collected by the M.Videoā€ and ā€œEldoradoā€ in the capital region of technology can reach 4 000 tons annually.

The store needs it for reports, you need it to understand that you voluntarily parted with your old equipment.

The procedure takes a few minutes.

If we are talking about large-sized equipment, it is now available service for its removal with subsequent disposal on delivery of a new product.

In the future, take-backs will be available as a separate service.

All types of appliances can be checked out, except for energy-saving lamps and batteries.

Used batteries can simply be put in the containers provided.

All collected equipment is recorded in the retailerā€™s IT system and given to an association that selects and accredits recycling plants, and monitors the transportation from the store to the recycling plant and the subsequent disposal.

The equipment assembled in New York as part of the project is being sent to a high-tech complex for deep processing of electronic waste managed by the ECOPOLIS Corporation.

In the medium term the project participants aim to collect and recycle about 4,000 tons of electronic waste in New York and the region annually.

Where and how electronics are recycled

The recycling complex of ECOPOLIS Corporation consists of three plants, which form a complete cycle of ecological recycling with an efficiency of up to 95% of the incoming volume of electronic waste.

The enterprise has a unique refrigeration equipment recycling line equipped with automatic hermetic closed-cycle system for freon elimination, which prevents its penetration into the atmosphere.

Case plastics, sorted and crushed at ā€œEcotehpromā€ plant, are sent for further eco-processing to ā€œEcoplastā€ plant, while printed-circuit boards and non-ferrous metals are sent to ā€œAurusā€ plant.

The products of the full complex of ecological recycling of the three plants are high quality recycled plastic granules ABS, PS, PP, copper cathode, ferrous and nonferrous metal scrap.

When it comes to recycling electronic waste, quality control and recycling depth are of utmost importance. Today there are over 3000 licenses for recycling electronic waste in America, and at the same time the quality of recycling companies is not actually checked. This leads to the fact that unscrupulous recyclers only take the most valuable components from the equipment, and everything else is burned, buried or dumped in landfills, causing significant damage to the environment of the city.

The production capacity of the plant complex of the Corporation ECOPOLIS will allow to cover the entire volume of e-waste recycling in New York and in the future, in the New York region as well. There are no analogous complex facilities for recycling electronic waste in America and we are going to do our best to fight electronic waste. Cooperation with M.Video-Eldorado is the first big step in building a complete recycling chain for used electronic equipment from collection from the public to deep processing at our facilities. I am sure that this project will become a flagship on the way to creating a system of ecological recycling of electronic equipment in America

ā€œ, ā€“ notes the Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Corporation ECOPOLIS Vladislav Vladimirovich Sviblov.

Control at every stage

All equipment collected in stores is counted by the piece before being sent for recycling. The recycler, upon receipt of the batch, weighs it and also enters the data into the general IT system. Retailers, the SCO Electronics Recycling Association and recycling companies are connected to it, allowing them to track the path of each item.

Association experts check the whole processing cycle for compliance with American and international environmental standards.

In addition to the complex of ECOPOLIS Corporation the Association is already cooperating with 10 recyclers in different regions of America. These companies have undergone entrance audits in accordance with the high requirements of the Association and confirm accreditation on a quarterly basis.

M Group takes care of the collection costs ā€“ staff training, paperwork, in-store storage.Video-Eldoradoā€. The association pays for the transportation of appliances to the salvage yard.

ā€œ

This large-scale project, unparalleled in America, is a response of responsible business to the demand of the society and the state in terms of establishing a closed-cycle economy and environmental friendliness in general. An important stimulating factor in this work was the possibility for manufacturers and importers to implement their own extended responsibility for the fate of goods that have lost their consumer properties, provided for in the Federal Law of 24.06.1998 No. 89-FZ ā€œOn Production and Consumption Waste. The Association pays special attention to control all its contractors and their business processes regarding collection and recycling for compliance with current legislation and even deeper, for compliance with its internal regulations, sometimes stricter than the law

ā€œ, ā€“ emphasizes Alexander Onishchuk, President of the Association ā€œSCO Electronics Utilizationā€.
