“In the near future the white goods market will see a shift from white appliances to high-tech gadgets with lots of clever functions. With the commercial launch of our innovative refrigerator, we are taking the lead on this transformation,” said Young-ha Lee, President and CEO of LG Home Appliance. – “By the end of the year, when our entire lineup is introduced, consumers will be able to be in touch with their home appliances at all times, enjoying the convenience of using them and seeing real-time improvements in energy reduction and time savings.”.

Consumers got their first glimpse of LG’s THINQ™ smart technology in action earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show CES in Las Vegas. LG’s innovative Smart Grid smart energy system , Smart Diagnosis remote diagnosis , Smart Access remote access , Smart Adapt device adaptation and Smart Manager food control in the refrigerator features allow users to control their refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens and robot vacuum cleaners through a remote network.

The company’s innovations that combine Smart Grid and other key technologies show how much more energy, time and cost savings LG brings to consumers’ lives, making them even more comfortable.

Refrigerators will be the first to get intelligence

The new smart refrigerator provides updates and information via smartphone or tablet, as well as three options for efficient energy conservation: saving after midnight, saving at preferred times, and Smart Grid-ready.

“Saving after midnight” and “saving at a preferred time” are now available in the permanent tariff system, where they have already demonstrated their effectiveness. Smart Grid-ready, first shown at this year’s CES, is a more flexible feature that allows you to save even more energy with time-of-day billing.

Product control system in the refrigerator, LG Smart Manager informs consumers about the food in it, its location and expiration date. Thanks to the Smart Access remote access technology, it is also possible to access this information via smartphones or tablets. So that consumers will always have this data at hand, in those moments when they are shopping for groceries in the hypermarket or at dinner in a restaurant, pondering the possibility of cooking at home the same gourmet meals as from the chef. The refrigerator can even recommend interesting recipes based on the products you have in your refrigerator.

Besides, thanks to the unique Smart Diagnosis function, LG refrigerator provides the technical support service with all the information necessary to identify the malfunction through the phone. Smart Diagnosis eliminates the need for time-consuming and expensive technician calls, allowing LG Customer Support to know in advance if a problem can be solved remotely.

The smart refrigerator also features Smart Adapt, allowing users to keep their refrigerator software up to date with the latest updates, features and options. The innovative refrigerator is also a source of useful information, keeping track of daily schedules and providing regular weather forecasts. And instead of writing notes on post-it notes and hanging them on the fridge, family members can now use the fridge’s LCD screen as a handy messaging pad.

LG’s washing machine will also become intelligent

In addition to optimal washing modes and minimum consumption, the LG washing machine is also equipped with Smart Diagnosis technology. If you have any problem, just dial the number of technical support and press the diagnostic button, after which the service technicians will determine the cause of the problem by listening to the sound of the washing machine.

And with Smart Access, users can not only check the status of LG’s smart washing machine, but also control it with their mobile devices. Through a smartphone or tablet, consumers can remotely set the wash cycle or turn on the drying function, making controlling the “home laundry” as easy as making a phone call.

LG smart refrigerators will be available in Korea in the first half of 2011, and in other countries as of the second half of 2011.

Other smart devices featuring THINQ™ technology will be introduced to the market during 2011.
