Seagate Technology, world leader in storage solutions, announces Exos® X16 Helium enterprise hard drive with record 16TB capacity. The drive has high performance and enables cost-effective and efficient management of ever-growing volumes of data in data centers. Seagate also updated its line of IronWolf and IronWolf Pro NAS drives with 16TB capacity additions.

The demand for hyper-scale, cloud and NAS storage solutions continues to skyrocket. The amount of data created, recorded and played back worldwide will grow from 33 to 175 zettabytes ZB between 2018 and 2025, according to a report by IDC in partnership with Seagate. The Seagate Exos X16 hard drive delivers the highest areal density of any hard drive available, field-proven reliability, and sustained high performance to meet the demands of a wide range of workloads and high availability solutions.
Exos X16, a 7200-RPM 3.5-inch hard drive, delivers the world’s highest capacity. It is designed to meet the wide range of needs of hyper-scale environments, data centers, OEMs and distributors. With increased I/O speeds and improved caching facilities, the new product allows
Maximize storage capacity, empower users and simplify multiple workloads of varying types. The 16TB Seagate Exos X16 hard drive delivers 33 percent more petabyte capacity per rack for the same compact footprint as a 12TB drive, helping to lower the total cost of ownership for storage environments.
“Exos X16 helps reduce the total cost of ownership of enterprise solutions and cloud data centers. At the same time, it supports multiple applications across a wide variety of workloads,” said Cy Varanasi, vice president of marketing at Seagate Technology. – Exos X16 is the first 16TB helium storage device on the market. We are now bringing this new product to market, delivering it to enterprise customers and cloud operators to meet the growing demand for exabyte-capacity storage environments.”.

Continuing to push the speed and capacity barrier, Seagate has introduced IronWolf and IronWolf Pro 16TB drives designed for multi-user NAS environments with workloads up to 300TB/year. IronWolf with its high performance, low noise and low power consumption is optimal for NAS systems used in homes and small offices for everyday backup, remote access and file sharing tasks. And IronWolf Pro drives will provide reliable NAS systems that both creative professionals and small businesses with data-intensive tasks can use.
