Hasselblad has released new firmware for its X1D medium format mirrorless camera that will bring it as close as possible to the digital version of the X-Pan camera. With the new v1 firmware.20 added a series of framing modes, including the 65:24 X-Pan ratio, as well as the classic 1:1 square and other well-known medium format camera proportions.
The update also adds a preview mode and the ability to view photos you’ve taken through the camera’s video viewfinder. In addition, for some H-system lenses, autofocus mode is now available with the XH adapter for the X1D.
Framing modes available:
X-Pan ratio 65:24
1:1 7:6 5:4
3:2 16:9 2:1
A4 US Letter
Although the cropped frame can be seen in the viewfinder and on the rear screen of the camera, JPEG files are recorded in full 4:3 aspect ratio. Trimming option only appears in RAW files, when using Hasselblad’s Phocus program.
Of course you can crop 65:24 format images using any other software, but the particular interest here is in the process of shooting, in the video viewfinder you see the anamorphic style of. The unused area of the viewfinder is dimmed, but users can adjust the density of the mask overlay with a view of the entire scene, to build the perfect composition.
New firmware v1.2 for the H6D also received many features like the version for the X1D, including framing modes when working with the display, backup to a second memory card and support for EXIF information of some lenses. Both cameras have a new display mode that includes basic exposure information, not just a blank screen.
