Updated rating of smartphones: new leaders in 2019

Roskachevo together with colleagues from ICRT International Consumer Research and Testing , the International Assembly of Consumer Testing Organizations, completed another study of smartphones. To the 334 phone models were added 25 new products tested in late 2018 – early 2019. Roskachestvo summed up the results of the study and compiled a new rating.

New smartphones were tested in 20 areas, including: phone features, ergonomics smartphone usability , camera and video, calling, text messaging, music, navigation and Internet. These directions imply both general criteria power and multifunctionality, universality and usability of the interface and more specific parameters: fingerprint scanner, water resistance, durability, speech quality in noisy environment and others. In total – 229 parameters of quality and safety of mobile devices. The supplemented study included new products from brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Nokia, Motorola, LG, Huawei, Honor, Blackview, Asus and others.

And again in the top 10 smartphones were Samsung 7 models , Apple 2 models and Huawei 1 model . The big news of the updated rating is that the three leaders of the rating are new Samsung models.

What are so good leaders of the ranking? These three models represent the same lineup and differ in size, weight, and screen the S10e is the smallest and with a flat screen , as well as some technical features main camera module, fingerprint scanner location, screen type, and battery capacity . As our tests showed, the S10 has an improved fingerprint scanner compared to other models: it now creates three-dimensional images of the fingerprint, which has increased its reliability.

In addition, the S10 line of smartphones received very high scores for communication quality and processor speed. They have improved camera quality: for example, the resolution of the front camera, these smartphones received the highest scores.

Samsung Vs Apple: strengths and weaknesses of eternal rivals

Samsung models can be called leaders in such indicators as sound quality, battery capacity, phone features, call quality, as well as durability and water resistance.

The opposite situation is observed with the indicators of quality of photo and video among which the quality of pictures and video directly, usability of the camera, shutter speed, etc. . d., total – 58 parameters : here the six leading positions of the rating are occupied by Apple smartphones. In first place is the iPhone XS Max, with the iPhone XS in second place and the iPhone XR in third place. The presentation video claims that the camera in these new products is better than in previous iPhones.

Our tests confirmed this. The iPhone X was displaced, ranking 4th, and the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were 5th and 6th, respectively. But the 7th and 8th places were snatched away from Apple by Samsung novelties S10+ and S10 . Interestingly, in 9th place is still the iPhone 5s. And, if someone has lost the Samsung Galaxy S10e – here it is, trailing the top ten. So, despite the fact that the top ten smartphones with the best cameras are mostly Apple devices, we can’t say that all Samsung smartphones have a bad camera. Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Note 8 and S8+ lost to Apple products in terms of camera quality hundredths of a point.

At the same time Apple iPhone XS and XS Max, as well as their predecessors, including the iPhone X, actually failed the durability test drum test . Definitely do not drop these phones: there is a high probability that they will break and it will cost you a lot of money to repair them. And the XR is the first iPhone that didn’t fail the durability test. After a hundred revolutions in the drum tube, it had only minor scratches. The manufacturer wasn’t fooled when it praised the “exceptional quality of materials” and the “particularly durable glass front panel”.

In general, experts note the general focus of all manufacturers on such characteristics as camera quality and certain specific characteristics bokeh effect, super slow motion, artificial intelligence, flexible displays , process speed, display quality, the ability of the smartphone to quickly charge and keep charge.
