The α57 is the successor to the popular α55, and its price makes it an attractive option for a wide range of DSLR users. The α57 boasts a stylish design and excellent ergonomics, as well as many of the features provided by another Sony camera model, the α65. For the first time, entry-level camera users have a flexible and fast means of capturing photos and Full HD movies normally available in higher-end cameras.

Delivers high-quality, detailed, low-noise Full HD stills and movies with an Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with effective resolution of 16.1Mpix and a powerful, latest-generation BIONZ processor, which Sony perfected in developing the flagship α77 and α65 models and easily handles huge volumes of data.

The new Tele-zoom Continuous Advance Priority AE mode allows the α57 to shoot at up to 12 frames per second. With the ability to magnify the image in the center of the sensor by 1.4 times, this mode is ideal for capturing close-ups at just the right moment and produces a series of beautifully focused shots even with moving subjects.

A 15-point TTL phase auto focus system with three cross-type sensors, also available on the α65, makes focusing fast and accurate. And advanced tracking autofocus lets you focus the camera accurately on a face or other subject, even temporarily overlapping the subject with another moving object.

In addition to still images, the α57 can record stunning, spectacular Full HD movies. Fast and continuous phase auto focus ensures sharp images of both still and moving subjects. AVCHD standard version 2 support.0 with progressive scan means the camera captures Full HD 1080p video at 50fps 50p, progressive scan , the ideal format for smooth motion capture without blurring.

Also, selecting 25p shooting mode gives you a richer, more cinematic look. And the full control of shooting parameters in P/A/S/M modes expands your video shooting possibilities and gives you almost unlimited room for expression.

Even beginner photographers can take professional quality portraits with the α57. Sony was the first in the world to introduce Auto Portrait Framing. Using face detection and compositional rule of thirds, the camera detects the location of your subject and crops the scene to create a tightly composed, professional-looking frame with a vertical portrait or horizontal landscape orientation.

Sony’s pixel-perfect zoom technology ensures that cropping and zooming in won’t reduce the number of pixels in the final image. And since the original image is saved along with the processed image, photographers can easily compare the two and improve their skills.

Want to get your subject closer? Clear Image Zoom doubles the magnification of the lens. And Sony’s unique ‘Pixel-perfect’ zoom technology retains the finest detail even at maximum zoom. Much more practical than traveling with a large, cumbersome telephoto lens.

Real-time preview of exposure settings, composition and focus are made possible by the Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder. With 1.44 million pixels for superior detail and full field-of-view coverage, it rivals high-end optical viewfinders.

Tru-Finder Viewfinder has a wide viewing angle to help you shoot with the framing grid, Digital Level Gauge and more. Relevant information can be displayed on the viewfinder screen itself or on the 7.5 cm 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD movable-angle display.

BIONZ processor expands shooting capabilities by allowing the widest range of sensitivities, from 100 to 16,000 ISO. Whether you’re shooting fast-moving action with a low shutter speed or taking photos without a tripod in low light, you’ll always get natural, low-noise images.

Built-in Picture Effects are already popular with photographers doing creative image processing. This camera’s Picture Effects include 11 types of effects and 15 variations, so you can process your shots without the need for a PC. Live preview of how Picture Effects have been applied to stills or video on the LCD screen or Tru-Finder viewfinder screen.

Sony offers many optional accessories for the α57. The battery-powered HVL-LE1 LED video light makes indoor and low-light movies possible and the ACC-FM1A Accessory Kit is ideal for the active, including the NP-FM500H rechargeable battery and LCS-AMB universal carrying case to protect the camera and get it quickly ready for shooting.

In America, the new Sony SLT-A57 camera with a translucent mirror will go on sale in April 2012. Approximate price of the model – 31900 Dollars.

The SLT-A57 is made with recycled plastic. 10% recycled content in camera body.

How does the Sony SLT-A57’s translucent mirror technology allow for capturing motion at such a high frame rate of 12fps? What advantages does this offer in terms of photography or videography?

The Sony SLT-A57 utilizes a translucent mirror technology which allows for capturing motion at a high frame rate of 12fps. Unlike traditional DSLRs, this technology enables the mirror to remain fixed while a portion of the light passes through it to the image sensor, while the rest is reflected onto the phase detection AF sensor. This simultaneous capture of light and phase detection AF allows for continuous autofocus tracking, ensuring sharp focus even in fast-moving subjects.

The advantages of this technology in photography are evident in capturing fast action such as sports or wildlife photography, as it enables photographers to take a rapid succession of images without missing a moment. Additionally, the continuous autofocus tracking enhances the accuracy and speed of capturing moving subjects.

In videography, the translucent mirror technology provides smooth and precise autofocus during video recording. The fixed mirror allows for a constant live feed to the electronic viewfinder or LCD screen, ensuring continuous visual feedback while recording. This feature is particularly beneficial in shooting fast-paced scenes or tracking moving objects during video capture.

Overall, the translucent mirror technology in the Sony SLT-A57 improves the camera’s performance in capturing motion, allowing for higher frame rates and continuous autofocus tracking. This offers photographers and videographers greater flexibility in capturing fast action moments with accuracy and ease.
