The Fujifilm X-T1 premium mirrorless interchangeable lens camera features a design similar to that of SLR models

Fujifilm is proud to announce the X-T1, the latest addition to its award-winning X series. Premium interchangeable lens camera with mirror-like design, mechanical dials and dust and splash proof when using an appropriate XF-series protected lens , and all the advantages of the X series cameras, such as compactness, portability and speed. What’s more, the new electronic viewfinder is virtually indistinguishable from an optical viewfinder thanks to its minimal lag.

Revolutionary real-time viewfinder

Wide-angle electronic viewfinder with the highest magnification ratio among digital cameras x0.77 (*1 allows the photographer to fully immerse himself in the process of taking pictures. The main feature of the viewfinder is the display, which has a lag time of just 0.005 sec(*2 – a tenth of the time that normally marks the displays of digital cameras(*3 . You won’t even notice you’re using the electronic viewfinder.

The ultimate combination of viewfinder and lens optical axis

2.36 million-dot OLED display. OLED 2.36 million pixels OLED display shows all the subjects being photographed in all the detail and lets the photographer immerse himself into the process of taking pictures as if he were using a traditional optical viewfinder.

In addition to its superb clarity, the X-T1 viewfinder camera offers photographers a suite of breakthrough technologies. The new user interface makes shooting easier by displaying the necessary setting information at a glance.

The viewfinder display has four modes of operation, opening up possibilities that optical viewfinders do not have:

1. FULL mode utilizes the X-T1’s high magnification finder ratio, letting photographers see the scene as fully as possible.

2. NORMAL” mode for optimal viewing, including shooting settings.

3. DUAL mode is specifically designed for manual focus, with the display divided into two zones. Meanwhile you can control the normal view area and the manual focus area at the same time with Digital Split ImageTM or Focus Peak Highlight (*4

4. For NORMAL and FULL portrait photography, the interface automatically rotates when the camera is held vertically.

World’s fastest autofocus.

Exceptional viewing capabilities are matched by high quality autofocus, equipped with EXR Processor II and X-Trans CMOS sensorII(*4 . New X-Trans II SensorNORMAL mode offers the world’s first phase-exposure autofocus in as fast as 0.08 seconds(*5 , and the EXR Processor II allows the camera to move to a working position in 0.5 seconds(*6 , with 0.05 sec shutter response and 0.5 sec interval between shots(*7 . Up to 8 frames per second can be shot in bursts(*8 With working autofocus. In addition, this is the first model in the world(*2 , Compatible with SDXC UHS-II memory cards, so burst mode recording speeds are up to twice as fast as on a normal memory card (*9 .

Rugged, dust and splash proof design

In addition to good looks and ease of use, the X-T1 is tough enough to withstand almost any situation. With approximately 80 points of sealing, the dust- and splash-proof camera housing reliably protects internal components from dirt and moisture. The camera also works in temperatures down to -10°C and lets you take photos in the field without worrying about bad weather, and the hardened LCD screen protector offers extra protection when shooting outdoors.

The optional vertical battery pack VG-XT1 is equally sturdy, so it can be mounted onto the XT-1’s body to ensure a secure fit.

In addition to the X-T1, Fujifilm is launching three weatherproof zoom lenses that will be available in 2014. First one, XF18-135mm, to be released in June. Three new lens models: XF18-135mm F3.5-5.6 R OIS WR, XF16-55mm F2.8 R OIS WR and XF50-140mm F2.8 R OIS WR.

Fujifilm

Classic controls, fast response time

The X-T1 features five mechanical dials on the top panel, two control dials, front and back, and six customizable function buttons, making the camera a full-featured working tool for the photographer. The top panel features twin machined aluminum dials for controlling shutter speed, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, and shooting mode selection.

Each disc is designed to change modes with an audible click, and the embossed surface makes it easy to set the parameters for the frame. Exposure is clearly marked on the dials, so you can change settings without having to look at the display and the position of the dials means you can operate the camera functions without taking your eye off the viewfinder. Six customizable function buttons and two dials on the front and back make sure you can set up your camera as quickly as possible.

Advanced X Trans II Sensor and EXR Processor II

X-Trans II CMOS sensor is identical to that of the popular X-E2. X-Trans II minimizes moiré and false colors with an original high pixel irregularity color filter. This does away with the optical low-pass filter OLPF , which causes loss of detail.

EXR Processor II eliminates even the slightest edge blur and diffraction blur that occurs at narrow apertures. Optimum Light Modulation LMO for interchangeable lens cameras further enhances image quality.

This advanced technology, which takes into account the optical characteristics of the individual lenses, was made possible by the joint development of the lens, sensor and processor.

but with a smaller and lighter body. It offers advanced features such as a 16.3-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor, high-speed autofocus, and impressive image quality. The camera also has a robust weather-resistant construction, making it suitable for outdoor photography. However, it may lack some of the features commonly found in traditional SLR cameras. Overall, the Fujifilm X-T1 seems like a great option for photographers looking for a compact yet powerful camera.

Is the design similarity to SLR models a significant factor in the performance and functionality of the Fujifilm X-T1, or is it purely an aesthetic choice?
