December 15, at 20.The Gallery of Classical Photography will host a presentation and screening of Andrei Troitsky’s multimedia project “Inner Empire. This project continues work on the theme of memory, which was started in Andrew’s previous project, “Space-Transformation”. Now, however, these are the collective stories and myths in which we live.

This is “intersubjective reality” – memories of events that didn’t happen to us, but are perceived as our own. As if in a labyrinth, the stories of different people – lovers, artists, executioners, politicians, inventors, and dreamers – come together here. The connecting line is the story of two lovers who have lost each other in a huge city. Simultaneously with their search before the viewer are the memories of the fates of people from the distant or recent past who lived in the same empire. That’s how this space turns from a territory and a state into an empire, into an empire of memory.

“Inner Empire” is 27 large-scale photographic works paired with stories and music specially written for the project. The grandiose setting for its filming was a city unlike any other – St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Petrograd, Peter – the city of ghosts and the city of reality. Well-known and talented actors and actresses took part in the filming. Each of them played the role of one or another historical character. However, they are not named literally in the project: the viewer has the opportunity to guess their outlines in the images that appear before him.

Here’s how the author talks about the project: “The project was born in February of this year. I saw that my present is connected with the past and with the memory not only of the personal but of the collective. Memories of events that were not with me but are present in me live in it on an unconscious level. I wanted to see these images, recreate them and show them to others. In fact, I have set myself the task of showing what cannot be seen.”.

Andrei Troitsky – author of the idea, producer and photographer. Winner of the Tokyo International Photography Festival, first prize winner at the Monovision Photography Awards in London, apprentice of the photographer and photography theorist Alexander Lapin, filmmaker. The exhibition of Andrei Troitsky’s works “Space-Transformation” was held at the Gallery of Classical Photography in 2021.

Tickets for the presentation are available at the gallery’s box office. Gathering – 19.30-20.00. Start of Show 20.00.
