Andrei Troitsky’s new project – a story about the territory of our consciousness, where the war takes place. It’s in and it’s out. In two thousand years, civilization has fought two thousand wars, which is a reflection of our inner world.

Here is what the author himself says about this project:

“I was never left with the feeling that my memory contains much more than I had in my life, as if the memories were not my own, but from some distant past. In fact, it is in all of us. I wanted to see, feel these images from the unconscious and show them. It is a vast space that is inside us, but which we barely know”.

The project with the help of images and texts tells about the journey in the space of memory, to which the author gave the name “Inner Empire”. According to the author, empire has always been a way to unite people into a social edifice, but by uniting them it closes off the possibility of contact with oneself, inevitably creating a territory of “inner warfare”. The author tells us the stories of poets, politicians, executioners, artists, and lovers. They are not named, and viewers can guess behind the images.

Guo Jing, curator of the Beijing Photo Festival and Global Photographic Union, shared her impressions of the project:

“When you watch Andrei Troitsky’s Inner Empire series, you imagine stories told by two characters created by the photographer. These are stories about love and revelations about human nature, but also visual commentaries on historical events. Contemplating the images of the project, the viewer can suddenly find himself or herself in each frame. Then the photographs begin to resonate within him, and he encounters the true events depicted in these stories. If a photograph becomes the viewer’s own story or the story of his loved ones, it is more than just a photograph, it is an image of the collective memory of all the viewers. It is a clever project. “Inner Empire” is one more attempt of Andrey Troitsky to research a visual language. Personally, some of the work was difficult for me to understand, but it’s a successful series.”.

The vernissage on the occasion of the exhibition opening will take place on March 23 at 19:00.00. Entrance to the opening is traditionally free. Gallery address: New York, Savvinskaya naberezhnaya, 23 pp. 1.
