Nikon PHOTO CONTEST 2020-2021 Grand Prize Winners Announced

Nikon presents the winners of the Nikon Photo Contest 2020-2021 Grand Prix. Winners were chosen from 65,062 submissions, from more than 26,000 photographers in 150 countries. Video of the online awards ceremony will be posted on the Nikon Photo Contest 2020-2021 website this October. The winning works will also be displayed at the Nikon Photo Contest 2020-2021, which will be held in Tokyo, New York and London in late 2021.

“Shining” by Amin Nazari

The grand prize winner of the photography competition was “Shining,” submitted by Amin Nazari Iran of the “Open Category”. The elderly citizen pictured was hospitalized at Razi Hospital in Ahvaz, Iran, for COVID-19 treatment. The virus caused serious problems in all spheres of society, affecting social interaction, employment, education and many other areas.

“Escape from Karma” by Rei Kuroda

The grand prize winner in the short film competition was “Escape from Karma,” submitted by Rei Kuroda Japan from the “New Generation” category.

The theme of this work is liberation from various social restrictions, feminism and national self-determination. The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed everyone’s life. People have found that they cannot rely on what they once took for granted – what they once took for granted is becoming increasingly uncertain and shaky.

Nikon Photo Contest is one of the largest photo contests in the world. It has been held since 1969. To date, more than 450,000 photographers have submitted more than 1,770,000 entries, making it a truly international event.

Comment by lead judge Neville Brody on the Nikon 2020-2021 Photo Contest: “I was amazed at the number and quality of submissions, despite the pandemic and the personal challenges we all faced. The jury evaluated a wide range of ideas and perspectives on the world. This year we saw some very moving and emotional work that stunned the judges – images of personal suffering, emotion, and life’s twists and turns. It has been an extremely difficult year for all of us and to create work that reflects these issues in one way or another shows how powerful the tools of photography and video are for documenting history.

The winning works will be shown at public outdoor exhibitions in Tokyo, New York and London. During the exhibition, the work will be on display in different locations in every city. The show will begin in Shibuya, Tokyo, Oct. 5-18, and then move to New York from Oct. 18-31. The final exhibition will be held in London from November 1-14. The Nikon Photo Contest 2020-2021 website will also feature an online exhibition from October 5.
