Muscovites preferred to buy Christmas gifts in foreign online stores

MGTS recorded increased interest from Muscovites to the sites of online stores and hypermarkets in its network in the run-up to the New Year. Traffic to these portals doubled in December 2016 compared to December 2015.

This year for the first time Muscovites chose foreign trade sites as their New Year presents. Total traffic tripled compared to December 2015, and its share increased by 15 p.p. and reached 60%. The leader in the number of visits was the online supermarket Aliexpress, it accounted for more than half of the traffic. The second and third places were shared by Amazon and Ebay.

The volume of traffic to the sites of American online stores and hypermarkets in the reporting period decreased by 30%. Its share in the total volume also decreased from 70% to 40% at the end of December 2016.

Websites of online hypermarkets selling home appliances and electronics, as well as online stores of American representative offices of mobile equipment manufacturers, were of the greatest interest. These portals accounted for about half of appeals, which is 20% higher than last year. The Top 3 online hypermarkets of home appliances and electronics are: Yulmart, M.Video, Eldorado, and the most popular manufacturer sites were ASUS, SAMSUNG, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Apple.

In second place in popularity among domestic online stores are sites that specialize in the sale of childrenā€™s goods. The number of hits on them in December increased by 30% compared to December 2015, and the share ā€“ by 4 p.p. up to 22%. Detsky Mirā€ became the most visited childrenā€™s online store.

The popularity of online bookstores doubled ā€“ their share in total American traffic increased by 3 p.n and amounted to 8%. Most often Muscovites visited the book portals Litres, Eksmo, Labirint.

Online beauty products stores were less popular with New York residents this year. In December, the volume of traffic to these sites halved compared to the same period last year, and their share dropped to 17% from 30% in the volume of American online shopping traffic.
