AAW Q IN-CANAL MONITOR in-ear headphones: church bass on Christmas Day strikes with speed and force

So the New Yearā€™s Eve fireworks have scattered in the sky, and thatā€™s a pity. What else would you think of?? Shouldnā€™t I become an Android, for that matter: wires out of my ear, feet on wheels? This one does not even need a lot of adjustment. Not too long ago my ears came into my ears in nano size, consisting of practically one sound tube. I sank them deeper, here are the wires from the ear. It remains to be solved with wheelsā€¦ But before we continue acquaintance with Singapore brand Advanced AcousticWerkes. Next up is a miniature AAW Q IN-CANAL MONITOR headphone model. As we found out in a previous review

, AAW brand specializes in in-canal monitors based on individual ear molds, i.e. on CIEM CUSTOM IN-EAR MONITOR . As a rule these headphones are built on a hybrid technology: with the simultaneous use of dynamic and armature radiator. But today weā€™ll be listening to the versatile AAW Q with a single micro dynamic transducer.

Appearance and kit

As in the case with Nebula Two, I got the ears in OEM version, which means I have the complete set and kept the box. Looked at the set and thought that the denim pocket was stolen on the blue case: it is the same stitched, with a label glued ā€“ AAW strange that not Montana . Funny! And whatā€™s in the ā€œdenim pocketā€?

It is obvious that Singapore is a developed country. The all-inclusive system is the norm here. Unpack the package: headphones, 6 pairs of pairs of tips 3 silicone and 3 foam , leather clip on magnets for the cable in a retracted position , an adapter for the aircraft, an adapter 3.5/6.3 mm and a puzzle of paper instructions.

The headphones are miniature, lightweight, the material is aluminum, and the sound tube is covered with a metal mesh. The look of the ears, let me tell you, is simple and ingenious. The shape of the ears is strictly cylindrical, with a metallic glow. Through the mesh that covers the sound tube you can see the tiny speaker, the cable is soft ā€“ 1,27 m, also black, in a cloth base. At the end is a straight 3.5mm jack, a gold color that nicely sets off the steel image of the headphones.

The case that mimics the Denim Rhapsody is actually kind of cool. Itā€™s also a cable reel attachment, and the ears and jack dissolve inside like a queenā€™s pendant in black velvet you can hear the musketeer voice with the hoarseness ? . True, instead of velvet in the entrance is now a non-woven black foam. The other century ā€“ other technology, but Musketeer Boyarsky is still the same ā€“ just wait and see, ā€œpendantsā€ will go to her majesty..

We urgently close the whole thing with the lid made of leather or leatherette , and fix it with a magnetic AAW label strap.

It remains to say that the earbuds fit in the ear easily and nicely. The most important thing is to choose the right earpieces, which will ultimately affect the sound quality.

The plain ears can be worn the traditional way, cable down, and behind-the-ear. I chose the second method. The AAW Qā€™s isolation is quite good, it depends more on the tips and the placement of the ears in the ear canal than the way they are worn.

In general, there is nothing wrong with ergonomics and design.

Sound

Listening was performed on MyST DAC 1866OCU V.2, Lotoo paw Gold, Sony PCM-D100, Hifiman HM-601, QLS QA-360, Shanling M1 and Samsung galaxy s7 edge smartphone.

With all the sources the headphones played at the appropriate level, but as in the case of hybrid Nebula Two I would say they are ears to grow on. to grow the source: the cooler the source, the better the sound quality.

Strongly believing in the legend of magical warming up here is holy Friday: I myself was convinced of the advisability of this action , I took the headphones to idle for 100 hours. I think itā€™s a little bit. Here are the presidents are given 100 days to warm up.

I didnā€™t listen to the headphones during the run-in period, so as not to ā€œembarrass the lady without makeupā€. Only overheard once, when attaching the earpieces retrieved from the depths of my apartment.

How ā€œlooks like a lady in her negligee,ā€ I will not tell. The thing is, the wrong earbuds, if they donā€™t fit right in your ears, will critically affect the sound quality. You may well get, as in the movie: ā€œWhat a disgusting, itā€™s your bay fishā€.

Since the AAW universal headphones are practically a sound tube, but in diameter they are thicker than usual, it is not so easy to pull the standard ear cushion over such a design. The original AAW nozzles are enlarged to the size of the fat sound tube and so they fit at once, easily and comfortably, but hereā€™s the trouble: Iā€™d rather not listen to anything with them. The sound turned out to be ā€œover-lit,ā€ unceremoniously bright in the high frequencies. To smooth out the embarrassment the foam kit helped, prompting the right way into the world of amazing music.

The thing is, the stock silicone has a narrowed ā€œexhaustā€. For an armature model this would be a plus, but with a dynamic radiator it is a real minus. All in all, I found the appropriate size of ear cushions in my pocket and got the desired result.

Audio Engineering

And now that everything is OK with my head, letā€™s talk about music.

I would describe the sound of AAW Q as smooth, clean, with good detail and enviable power. I didnā€™t expect this kind of quickness from these ā€œlittle thingsā€. It has everything: a good solid punch, fast, distinctly textured bass, intelligible, detailed and at the same time emotional midrange and clear, clean, with little accent high frequencies adjusted for source and attachments .

If I didnā€™t know exactly whatā€™s inside the AAW Q, Iā€™d confidently say itā€™s a good armature receiver. Thatā€™s the impression they made on me.

Bass lines are amazing with their speed and power. Of course, these arenā€™t headphones for bassheads, not at all. This is the kind of bass I love. It has an analog body, it doesnā€™t buzz, it doesnā€™t go where itā€™s not asked for, but at the same time the quantity and quality is unquestionable. This is the kind of bass a good single-driver model based on BA balanced armature should have. Yes, there are other examples: for example, the Nail 2 ā€œnailsā€ also boast quality, whipping, and textured bass ā€“ an interesting option in its own way, too.

The medium frequencies are played clean, detailed and expressive. There is a small accent in the area of the upper middle ā€“ at the junction with the high frequencies, but it does not cut obviously to the ear and does not pierce the brain drill, and works ā€œon the edgeā€ without crossing the ā€œred lineā€. It adds clarity and emotionality to the middle. So, female high notes touch upon the most sacred things, and the calm male baritone flows in deeply and with character.

The guitar riffs are very pleasantly played. They sound so melodic you want to close your eyes and watch the guitarist in virtual reality.

The high frequencies after I pacified them with the changeable attachments, though sound cool, but donā€™t violate the limits of reasonableness. They gained clarity, sterility, clarity, gone unnecessary aggression, and now even with the accent in the upper register all sounds are very decent. The upper part of the range sounds very clean with a little ā€œhint of spiceā€, which gives the whole picture expressiveness and lightness. The compositions begin to breathe, like on a clear and frosty Christmas, playing with the sunā€™s rays on the sparkling snow.

Conclusions

AAW Q IN-CANAL MONITOR universal headphones are very interesting. If you follow the ā€œrules of decorumā€ with the nozzles, they will give the owner a lot of pleasure from listening to your favorite music. If we talk about genres, the decisive role is played by individual preferences. Of course these headphones play instrumental music, jazz, old-school rock best. But the other directions are also voiced quite colorfully.

The price on the manufacturerā€™s official website is $299. Is it much or little for a headphone of this level?? I donā€™t think they are worth less.

ā€¦Oh, I forgot, you donā€™t have wheels for Android?

Sound, design, kit, price ā€“ optional.

For the best sound you need a careful selection of earpieces. Price ā€“ also at will.
