Having listened carefully to photographers, cameramen and videographers all over the world who use the LUMIX GH5 in their daily work, Panasonic engineers chose the most demanded functions and prepared a software update, which expanded the functionality of the camera and corrected the detected deficiencies. Crucially, this isn’t just another firmware update, but a significant improvement in functionality and performance that professional GH5 users want.
Major upgrades to the new firmware
1.LUMIX Tether” software compatibility
The new firmware makes it possible to use the GH5 via USB using the dedicated “LUMIX Tether” software. Users can control the camera and shooting process from a PC, view images on the large monitor screen, which is useful for studio commercial shooting in a wide variety of genres, from “subject” to portrait, t.e. Where continuous process control is needed. Using [6K PHOTO] or [4K PHOTO], you can start and stop video recording linked to shooting. It is also possible to select a folder to store pictures on a PC.

-
Autofocus [AF] efficiency improved for low contrast subjects when taking photos.
-
Improved tracking of autofocus characteristics during video recording.
-
Individual autofocus area can be continuously displayed in [Multi AF] and [Custom Multi AF] during live view.
-
The AF area in [Multi AF] can be moved to the other edge sideways, up or down when it reaches one edge.
-
AF lock start point can be set in the [AF Tracking] live view screen.
-
The autofocus area can be moved when the shutter button is pressed halfway or when recording in [Burst Mode], [6K PHOTO] and [4K PHOTO].
3.Improved performance in [6K PHOTO] and [4K PHOTO]
-
The waiting time for the next episode to start in [6K Burst] and [4K Burst] is cut in half.
-
[Loop Rec] is available in [6K PHOTO] mode.
* For [Loop Rec] [6K PHOTO], use of a Panasonic SD VideoSpeed Class 90 high speed memory card is recommended.
4.Optional ALL-Intra-Video Recording mode
- 4:2:2, 10-bit ALL-Intra video recording mode added to the 4K/FHD video recording option.
*For recording 4K ALL-Intra video, it is recommended to use an SD memory card with VideoSpeedClass60 or faster. Capability was tested on VideoSpeed Class 90 SD memory cards.
