EVALUATE THE DESIGN

GENERAL VISION

Hoover

Big and colorful iron, it stands out because of its red color. Buttons on handle, water tank and temperature switch decorated in red. The base plate next to the soleplate is gray, to match the ceramic-metal soleplate.

“The heel is wide and has a high edge along the edge. Handle size 12×11 cm, handle size 4.5 cm. When the iron stands on the ironing table it does not rest on the whole heel, but on the skirting and the narrow part on the handle. Iron wobbles but stands still when table is vibrating.

Knob is wide, all plastic. It does not slip in your hand, maybe due to its shape: under the buttons the handle is thinner, extends smoothly to the base.

Power cord as long as possible, braided in fabric. In the place of fastening to the iron there is a flexible joint that ensures movement of the cord up and down, this prevents the cord from twisting. Producers did not scrimp on plastic braid: it is long 8 cm, with wide base, protects cord well, does not let it Dollars against the ironing table edge.

Model design if I may say so, manly, brutal. This is reflected in the size of the iron, the brightness of the color, the increased volume of the water tank, the wide handle, which is easy to hold even in the big palm of your hand.

The iron is heavy, especially when the maximum tank is filled with water.

SOLEPLATE

Hoover

Techniques for the home

Iron manufacturers are extraordinarily modest: they tell the customer nothing about the iron’s soleplate in the manual. True, on the iron itself and on the box there is an inscription – ceramic sole plate ceramic sole plate , but there are no explanations about the properties or care for it.

The soleplate has 4 steam holes at the spout, 7 steam holes on each side, grooves for better steam flow.

The iron glides easily through all the fabrics we’ve ironed, it doesn’t stick, and you can move it in all directions. The nose is thin, but not long. In general, although the iron itself is noticeably larger than some of the other models on the test, the soleplate is not as different in size as one might think.

The length of the soleplate – 23 cm, width at the widest point – 12,5 cm, the length of the spout – 2 cm.

TEMPERATURE SETTINGS

The manual states 4 temperature settings. Let’s arm ourselves with a thermal imaging camera, measure after the heater indicator light goes out *:

1 – nylon – 100 – 111.6 ° C

2 – silk – 145,1 – 160,7 ° C

3 – cotton – 179 – 184.5°C

4 – Max. – 189.3 °C.

*The temperature is not constant, it varies and fluctuates every second, during the measurements tried to fix the maximum values.

The difference between the third mode and the maximum is not big, just a few degrees, and sometimes the temperature values overlap, so actually the third mode and the maximum are the same.

When ironing over-dried linens, I wanted to add more heat, or to press the steam button.

Conclusions:

The soleplate heats unevenly. Particularly noticeable temperature differences between the spout and the base. Compared to other models, the HOOVER came out with average results – not the worst, but not the best either.

POWER

When you turn on the heater power consumption ranges from 2495 – 2530 W, our measurements did not take it up to the maximum.

STEAM

Home Appliances

There are several steam modes, and you can iron without steam. I have already talked about the modesty of the manufacturer when describing their products, this also applies to steam production. The instructions don’t say anything, I don’t know where the vendors got the information from, I’ll repeat it: the steam power is up to 35 g/min., 140 g steam shock.

At maximum temperature and maximum steam without steam hammer , the 200 ml measuring cup of water in the reservoir was used up in 13 minutes of ironing.

Hoover

Conclusions:

The steam power is very high and the steam impact is very high, even in the photo. In general, if you analyze the temperature/steam ratio, steam plays more of a role in ironing the laundry than heat, which is why the water is used so quickly. But when smoothing the folds on linen clothes or steaming jeans, you have to use the steam blow.

CONTROL

Irons

Everything is quite traditional. On the base is a turntable, where the minimum, maximum, steam zone. Interesting that the regulator mark on the body is not located on the side of the spout, as with most models, but on the side of the base. It does not affect the work, just a little unusual.

The circle rotates easily, the distance between it and the handle is sufficient for any size hand.

On the handle is located 4-step switch steam power, and the switch is made in steps, and the inscription shows the smooth adjustment from minimum to maximum.

Buttons to activate the steam shock or water is conveniently located under the thumb, so during the ironing without distraction, you can easily use the steam shock. The buttons are tight, so it’s in line with the “steady hand” concept.

On the handle there is a power light, which lights up when the heating element is on and extinguishes when the element shuts off. The red color of the indicator matches the design of the iron 100%.

The water compartment is large, but it takes some effort to open the door. I preferred not to cover it so tightly that it was easier to get water in.

Conclusions:

Well thought out ergonomics: the iron is comfortable to use. It has a good grip, it’s easy to rearrange the temperature settings. Display is bright. Only a little bit tight buttons.

WATER

Home Appliances

The set includes a 200 ml water cup, and the maximum tank capacity is 300 ml. This is a shortcoming of the manufacturers: you have to pour the glass twice and watch the filling of the reservoir when you refill the water.

You do not need to fill up with special water, you can use tap water, but it is better to use filtered water, of course. There is a self-cleaning function to clean the reservoir from dirt, which is activated by pressing a special button. The instructions indicate that there is a water softening cartridge in the reservoir.

ANTICAPLE

Leakage protection works great. And with a full reservoir, not a drop leaks even when the iron is off. I shook the iron on purpose – the soleplate stays dry, all the water is perfectly retained inside.

When ironing, water is also retained inside, but sometimes there are drips even when using high temperatures.

INSTRUCTIONS

The book is thick and multilingual. The American part is brief and extremely laconic, but it has all the basic information, except the description of the soleplate and the steam power.

Test results

Home Appliances

This is the basic model in the HOOVER line and the first iron of this brand in America. A good start: the iron is easy to use, it irons a variety of fabrics well due to good steam and a strong steam blow. The price of this model is low for this brand , apparently, so that the products could be evaluated by a greater number of users. Provides the basic set of functions, no special water requirements. The anti-drip function works, which is important. I’d also like to mention the longest power cord, which gives you a wide choice of places for ironing.

No automatic shut off. Not very stable in vertical position.
