What LG showed in Las Vegas?

LG Electronics LG unveiled a full range of home appliances equipped with its proprietary LG THINQ™ technology at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.

THINQ™ technology consists of five innovative functions – Smart Grid intelligent energy system , Smart Diagnosis diagnostics at a distance , Smart Access remote access , Smart Adapt device adaptation and Food Management control of food in the fridge , which enable to control refrigerators, washing machines, ovens and robot vacuum cleaners via the smart grid. Combined with other LG branded technologies, these innovations deliver greater energy, time and cost savings, making consumers’ lives more comfortable.

LG THINQ™ – “smart home” on all appliances

With LG Smart Grid’s “Recommended Time” and “Lowest Rate” options, you can program the washers to do laundry at a time when energy costs are lowest. For LG ovens, it’s also possible to use the Smart Grid approach, which offers several operating modes that take into account cooking time and energy costs. Similarly, LG refrigerators can be configured to save energy during “peak” times, when electricity costs are highest, and operate at full capacity during low electricity rates.

LG Smart Diagnosis notifies you when an appliance malfunctions. When it comes to minor problems, such as the refrigerator door being left open, the smart appliances alert the user via the control display. And in future models equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, the owner will receive appropriate notifications on their smartphone or tablet PC. Thanks to the Smart Diagnosis system, the technician will be able to identify the exact cause of the problem and fix it quickly, thereby saving time and money.

With LG Smart Access monitoring and control features, users can monitor the status of their home appliances wherever they are. Using smartphones or tablets, they will be able to monitor how long food should be cooked, as well as check the temperature and the contents of the refrigerator. Consumers will even have the option of instructing the LG robotic vacuum cleaner to clean or watch over the cleanliness of the home while they are away.

The LG Smart Adapt system will allow users to download the latest options for their appliances, including pre-programmed cooking recipes and washing modes to suit their lifestyle. In addition, with the help of moving icons on the control panel and voice commands from the LG Food Management system, it is easy to keep track of the refrigerator’s contents and the shelf life of the food in it.

Based on the Inverter Direct Drive, LG’s “6 Movements of Care” technology uses six different rotations of the washing machine drum for efficient and gentle washing. ColdWash gives you a more economical cold water wash with the same results as a warm one, while LG’s TrueSteam steam penetrates deep into fabrics to effectively remove stubborn dirt and prevent creasing. LG provides a 10-year warranty on Direct Drive, thereby proving its reliability.
