  • Dimensions: 27,4×22,7×30 cm. The Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 is smaller than most coffee machines – but not tiny.
  • The outlet should not be too far away – the power cord is only 80 cm.
  • The water tank is capacious: 1.5 liters are enough for a couple or three days, even with the active consumption of cappuccino and drinks with milk foam. It is located behind the body of the coffee maker. You need to understand the reservoir up to take it out, but you can refill the water just by removing the lid. On the wall, there are markings for minimum and maximum water level. Even bespectacled people can see them clearly tried it out myself . No water filter, though. Manufacturers suggest that if you use tap water, it’s only pre-cleaned by filters hidden under the sink.

Espresso

In the Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 carob coffee maker, you can cook one cup of espresso, or two at the same time. There is a separate mode for this, as well as an additional “double” filter for the carob, which can be set to make two servings and for ristretto.

Time to brew one cup of espresso: 15 seconds, two cups – 25 seconds. You can make the next brew in two minutes.

The espresso comes out with a high crema and a beautiful creamy color. We didn’t even expect that the result would be so good.

Espresso shot – 40 ml, foam adds 10-15 ml volume. The coffee is strong, the aroma spreads throughout the apartment, very refreshing in the morning. The beverage gets really hot.

To make two coffees, I reinstall the filter: it is easy, just match the notch on the edge of the filter with the groove on the horn. I put two cups in and in 25 seconds two espressos were ready.

Cappuccino

To make a cappuccino in a Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 Carob Maker it goes like this: first you make espresso, then foam. There’s a classic cappuccinator for making it.

You can’t make espresso right away after making the crema, because the coffee maker needs time to cool down. Therefore, the procedure is quite specific.

Made espresso. Crema in the milk jug. We press the “Steam” button, put a container under the cappuccinator pipe and carefully turn the steam regulator on the side. The process went. Milk is whipped and heated. Much, of course, depends on the type of milk, but we had no misfires with any purchased in the nearest supermarket.

Cocoa

In the recipes that are in the instruction manual, I found how to make cocoa. And since this is my favorite morning beverage, I couldn’t resist and made it in addition to the coffee dough.

First I use the cappuccinator to heat some milk in a cup. Then I added a spoonful of cocoa powder and poured more milk. I put the whole mixture under the cappuccinator tube – it got all foamy and warm, and the cocoa powder dissolved all at once.

Result

It tastes better than when you just dissolve the cocoa powder in boiling water and add milk. The beverage is light and mild. I think the kids would like it better that way too.

Americano

The Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 Carob Coffee Maker has a manual mode. Using it, you can increase the serving volume. Or you can use the way suggested in the manufacturer’s recipes: pour boiling water into a cup, then put it under the horn and make espresso.

My dad’s 40ml coffee isn’t enough. He is used to drink it in large quantities. True, his favorite mug under the cone is not inserted. We find a compromise: a wide cup with a height of 9 cm. Puts it on, presses the “with the palm” button. When the mug is full, press again to stop the flow of coffee. And that’s it.

Boiling water

You can pour hot water into the cup through the tube of the cappuccinator. Place it under the tube and turn the regulator to the steam/water position. If you press the button with one cup, the boiling water will flow for 15 seconds, with two, it will flow for 25 seconds.

Need more water? Press manual mode and water pours until you press the button again. Maximum boiling time – 90 seconds. But in this case you have to have an empty cone with no coffee.

Honestly, have not used. Always a pot of boiling water at hand. But in case you need a glass of hot water, we know it’s possible.

Reheat

Steam can be heated when the beverage is cold: simply press the steam button, wait for a permanent indication, lower the tube deep into the cup and turn the steam knob.

  • Push-button, pictograms are clear and expressive: one cup, two cups, on center , manual mode, steam.
  • On the side – steam/water switch with stepless adjustment.
  • When the process of heating or cooling of the coffee machine is going on – the indicators are flashing, Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 is ready to work – they are lit with a steady light.
  • After one or two cups of coffee – the machine switches off automatically.
  • When using manual mode, or to interrupt the espresso brewing, press the button again.
  • To cook the foam, you have to press the steam button and then gently open the steam knob. Before cooking the foam, the manufacturer recommends draining the condensate, so that water droplets do not get into the milk. The steam supply can be stopped at any time by turning the steam regulator to the upper position.
  • The Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 turns off automatically after 25 minutes.
  • The device will remind you of the need to descale by “winking” the indicators five times. It happens about once every 2-3 months.

Care

Rinse cappuccinator tube immediately after whipping milk. First from the inside by turning the regulator to the steam/water position. Then, when cool, remove the tip and rinse it with running water and wipe the tube with a damp cloth.

Every two to three months you should descale your Zigmund & Shtain ZCM-850 Carob Coffee Maker. No need to buy expensive special products. I need 3 teaspoons of citric acid per 1.5 liters of water.
