Spike was designed by motocross photographer Colin Bristor, who specializes in capturing motocross races. He has been using this device for a long time in his work, and now it is available to a wide range of users. The rack is lightweight, simple in design, and allows for minimal setup time.
The Spike consists of a hollow steel pin with handles and a screw tip, making it easy to drill the stand into the ground. Inside the pin is an aluminum extending rod, which is secured by a clamping screw. There is a standard tripod thread adapter at the top of the stem, allowing you to mount your camera, flash, ball head and other equipment. The tripod has two basic sizes: 300 mm and 600 mm.
The main locations to use the Spike are in loose soils such as forests, sandy river shores, forest lakes and many similar locations. It may be useful for wildlife, sports and especially low angle or macro photography.
Colin Bristor explains more about the Spike in a demo video, which is available at: youtube.com/watch?v=zmW1KZIhMoU
