The NAD C715 CD receiver test

The device is interesting in that it is both a CD-player, a two-channel amplifier and an FM/AM radio tuner. Just add a couple of speakers to create a fairly powerful music system. Net sonic performance is also up to par, considering the low cost of the unit. This turntable interprets jazz and, to a little lesser extent, rock compositions in the most interesting way. For a flawless classical music reproduction the resolution is not enough in the whole range.

FEATURES

This model is a CD player combined with a two-channel power amplifier and a tuner for FM and AM radio bands. The model is positioned by NAD as a high-quality component of a music system designed for installation in a small room or office. The idea of the minimalist look of the device is form follows functionā€, which literally means ā€œform follows functionā€, or in other words ā€“ the content defines the form.

That is why the turntable looks so utilitarian, its functionality is put above the design gimmicks.

Built-in tuner allows you to store settings for up to 30 radio stations. The manufacturer promises a harmonic distortion factor of less than 0.5% when receiving a stereo radio signal.

The power amplifier provides 2Ɨ20 watts of stereo sound and is compatible with speaker systems whose impedance lies in the 4-8 ohm range. The company declares that the harmonic distortion of the amplifier is less than 0.09% and the signal-to-noise ratio is not worse than 90 dB.

Portable signal sources can be connected to the device through the connectors on the front panel, while stationary components are connected to the outputs located on the rear surface of the player. The USB connector on the front panel also allows you to connect removable media such as flash disks, as well as an MP3 player or a digital radio tuner.

SETTINGS AND FUNCTIONS

Repeat function allows you to loop a track, an entire disc, or a tagged snippet of a song. Treble and bass are independently adjustable.

The display shows very bright characters, which although small, but readable from a distance is very good.

SOUNDING

Pop, electronic

music. The bass of this unit is very rich, but at the same time it is rather soft, so at times it lacks some information. At times the bass sounds too massive, starting to overshadow the rest of the sound in a composition, however, this peculiarity appeared quite rarely.

Treble response is less prominent, so itā€™s not uncommon for electronic music to sound warmer than the composer intended.

Middle frequencies are the most developed frequency range, in which the player gives the most detailed sound. But on the other hand there are ā€œwrongā€ areas in the middle, where the instrument starts to sound a little bit colored.

In general, the sound of the CD-receiver does not strain the ear, there is neither excessive rigidity, nor callousness, so you can listen to electronic music for a long time without the slightest discomfort.

Classic.

Music in this genre sounds most balanced. Even though bass frequencies are delivered very powerfully, the bass is never dominant in the case of classical. At the same time, the bass is soft enough, it sometimes lacks a clear articulated attack. Thus the purity of the sound of metal drums is always on top.

The dynamic range and hence the legibility of the soft episodes of music is not very high, you have to increase the volume to hear everything. Quiet or distant instruments are lost in places when they enter simultaneously with the louder soloing voices of the orchestra.

The music scene is rendered quite large-scale, although the outlines of a large musical ensemble are not drawn very clearly.

On the whole, the unit gives a slightly simplified interpretation of complex music. But this music is easy to listen to and absolutely stress-free.

If not to stress the lack of some details, we must admit that this inexpensive unit plays very well.

Jazz

. As in the classics, jazz bass is normal, never suppressing other frequencies with its sound, but at the same time it is very noticeable. The bass is very intelligible, very good sounding pulses pop double bass. And the metal percussion, when highlighted in the recording, sounds distinct and clear.

In the middle, I liked the pianoā€™s live sound, itā€™s playing more exciting than anything elseā€¦ The impression is slightly spoiled xylophone muffled sound, but it should be noted that it is timbre and close to the original sound without too much brightness in the upper middle, which actually happens rarely. Brass instruments sound very good, giving a very open, flying sound.

Instruments are very well placed in front of the listener, even the cymbal is not so out of place in the stereo image. I liked the sound of the chorus because of the elaboration of each of its parts.

In general, jazz sounds very good, the music of this style is very emotional and exciting.

Rock.

Stereo unit produces powerful and voluminous, starting from the middle bass, low-frequency waves and full-bodied bass kick. The sound of rock music is balanced in the same way as in other genres: the device tends to the bass, the middle is less present and the top is the least developed.

Sharp, sharp, but without coloring, electric guitar sounds in the middle, its aftershounds are not deprived of a long melody. I liked the vocals, they are not the most permissive, but you canā€™t deny them in power and energy.

Price

: The average price in New York is about 13 700 Dollars.
