The compact Fujifilm FinePix Z800 EXR waits for your child to turn to the camera and then shoots

Creating a smart, technologically advanced camera is a complicated task, but achievable. After all, this is what most manufacturers, be they the clear market leaders or obvious outsiders, are all about. Making the high-end technique beautiful is more difficult, but also possible. And very few people manage to do it comfortably and conveniently. Look at the Z-series and the new FinePix Z800 EXR.

The picturesque gadget looks great because of its tiny metal body and expressive flush on the sliding lens cap. In such cases, it’s common to talk about nature, wind or ocean tidal energy, natural but energetic forms of.

More likely, the designers were inspired by fire: at least one of the four possible colors of the Z800 EXR is naturally fiery red the other three are pink, black and champagne . Anyway, the camera looks great. On the rear panel, the natural aesthetics are replaced by a modern technological one with a 3.5-inch touch-sensitive display. The screen occupies almost the entire surface of the camera, so there is no place for the traditional buttons, respectively, and the management of Z800 by gestures and clicks.

At a purely technical level, the camera features Fujifilm’s latest EXR sensor, a next-generation phase focusing system similar to that of the F300 EXR. Electronics, evaluating the illumination of the scene, automatically selects the phase or standard, by contrast, method of focusing, which in the most favorable cases reduces the focusing time to 0.158 s.

EXR system, reflected in the name of the camera, allows you to use the unique features of the proprietary sensor: increase, as appropriate, to increase the sensitivity, detail or tonal range of the images. The only difference between this beauty and the F300 EXR is the lens: the stylish compact body couldn’t hold the wide-angle zoom of the older model and therefore the Z800 zooms in at 5x within the range of 35-175mm.

The camera’s smarts didn’t suffer at all. There’s shooting 360-degree panoramas, HD-video recording, and “super-smart” flash, face recognition capabilities, and even pets – up to ten cats and dogs in the frame.

There is a special mode for taking pictures of children where the camera waits until the favorite child turns to the camera from front to back and immediately activates the shot.

The photo album with the search functions by scenes and faces and the possibility to mark the necessary files for the further automated upload to YouTube or Facebook helps to deal with the ready-made photos and videos. The only unpleasant feature of a gifted electronics is a high appetite. On a single battery charge, the Z800 EXR will take no more than 170 shots – one of the lowest figures of any camera we’ve reviewed.
