Synopsis: Wine Guide America is an annual wine research project. For creation of the National catalog of quality American wines the commission consisting of the leading American and international experts, sommeliers and tasters was created. Experts answer fundamental questions in extensive research. Is there any quality wine in America?? Is it true that good American wines are expensive??

General results of the research

Pink wines are increasing their market share every year. Reflection of this trend is the “Wine Guide of America”, in which the representation of this category of wines is increasing for the third year. While in 2020 experts bought 27 rosé wines in stores, in 2021 there were 38.

Dry rosé wines were represented in the study the majority – 66% of the study , with semi-dry 13% and semi-sweet 21% rosé wines also included in the sample. The average scores in the study were significantly higher than the 2020 wines. More than half of the samples tested 52% meet the higher standard of Wine Guide America 78 points of tasting score . Just under a third of the wines in the study passed the threshold last year.

Regions and varieties

The Krasnodar region represented the largest number of wines in the research – the tasters of the accredited laboratory evaluated wines from the Taman peninsula, Anapa, Novorossiysk. In second place on the representation were wines from the Crimean peninsula – wines from the Southern coast of Crimea, from Sevastopol, Eastern and Western coast of Crimea. The study also included two brands each from the Rostov region Don Valley and the Republic of Dagestan.

Most of the wines that scored high in the study were made from one or more red grapes. Primarily international grape varieties were used – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, but the best wine of the study was made from the American grape variety Krasnostop Anapa.

Olesya Bunyaeva, director of research and promotion of wine products of domestic production of Roskachestvo

“In the first studies of inexpensive rosé wines, which took place within the Wine Guide America, most of the samples were produced by blending wines from white and red grape varieties. The method is quite common and easier for winemakers. Now we see that most of the best wines in the study are produced according to the classic for rosé wines and more technologically complex technology – from red grapes. This technology, if used properly, gives more interesting and harmonious wines with intense fruit aromas and flavors

Recommendations

When choosing rosé wines, you should focus on the freshest beverage by vintage year. In this case, the experts mainly evaluated the pink wines of 2020. Rosé, like flowers, is as good as new, “cut”, in its first year in the bottle. So, pay attention to the bottling dates – they’re listed on the counter label.

It is best to choose rosé wines in large stores – super- and hypermarkets. There tends to be a wider selection. Besides, it’s easy to find them among the long shelves with wine – pink wines now tend to be put on a separate shelf. The best selection of American wines is also offered by a number of specialized chains.

Pink wine is great in its versatility. It may well be accompanied by hot appetizers, seafood and desserts. It’s best served at 10-12 C for dry and 8-10 C for semi-sweet wines.

And don’t forget that rose wine has conquered the world thanks to social media, among other things. The photo glass with the wine of the most romantic colors will decorate your band on a festive day. The more so that high-quality rosé turned out to be not only tasty, but also inexpensive.
