OVERALL IMPRESSION

For many Americans Zelmer is a “dark horse”, although the brand has been known since Soviet times.

The Zelmer 486 is already on the American market. Its design is traditional for juicers, the distinctive feature is that the body is made of rust-free steel. The juicer looks sleek and modern.

FUNCTIONAL TESTS

1. Test 1 – making carrot juice. 1 min. 8 sec one kilogram of carrots yielded 489 g of juice. After straining the juice leftover 361 grams. Juice purity 74%, juicing efficiency 36%, juicing capacity 883 g/min. Throughput is higher than GOST values, spinning efficiency corresponds to GOST values with consideration of possible deviations from average values but juice purity is lower than the value in GOST. This seems to be due to the fact that the manufacturer considers it more important to “preserve more nutritional and dietary properties than transparency of the juice”. Instructions for use, pg. 42 .

2. Test 2 – making apple juice. In 56 seconds, one kilogram of apples yielded 527 g of juice. After straining the juice the remainder was 514 g. Cleanliness – 98%. Mouth water capacity 1071 g., t. e. more than a pound a minute! Squeezing efficiency of 51% – higher than the State Standard. Great result!

3. Our test score. This juicer is fine, but it makes apple juice! If you have apple trees on the property, the Zelmer 486 is a real helper. What do I like about it: the pusher has a mark, easy assembling, the strength with which the suction cups hold the juicer on the surface. I didn’t have to push the fruits hard, they turned into juice easily. Noise level does not disturb during juicing.

ERGONOMICS

Material. The body is made of steel the lid, the pulp tray are made of translucent gray plastic. Metal catch slides into plastic grooves in one motion. To disassemble the juicer, it is necessary to press the latch with a little effort.

Capacity for pulp – transparent bucket. If you process a large amount of fruits and vegetables, this becomes a plus: you can easily see how full the bucket is. When processing a small amount of fruit or vegetables it does not matter. The tank is large: it easily holds the pulp of 6-7 kg of apples. Chewings are fine. homogeneous, slightly moist.

Juice jug made of the same plastic as the juice collector. On the jug is not, in addition to milliliters, there are measurements in dips cups , pints. pint = 0.57 l , fl.oz fluid ounce = 28,413 ml . The skimmer fits in the grooves and is easy to remove.

Throat width and design. Bottom of the neck is a sharp cutter – a lock. That’s why you don’t have to push the fruits and vegetables hard, but be careful not to cut your hand on the sharp plastic when you wash it. Width is standard for this class of product, very large apples must be cut once.

Pusher – 20,5 cm. On the lid you can see on which side the notch is located, this is convenient.

The spout is made of plastic. We didn’t like the construction of the spout because it was too thin. The first time we squeezed juice with this juicer, we had some of the juice in the jug on the lid.

Two buttons on the outer casing to change the speed. Black is responsible for the speed: in the middle position – off., on top – 1 speed, down – 2 speed. The orange button is responsible for the “turbo” mode, you press it with your finger to activate it.

Power cord – thick, but there is no data on its properties. A special place is provided for winding the excess cord.

Suction cups are heavy-duty, you have to make a noticeable effort to “tear” the juicer from the table surface.

Dimensions – tall juicer, but doesn’t look bulky.
