The VPL-VW550ES is the third Sony home theater projector introduced in the year since IFA 2015, following the HW series update with the VPL-HW45ES and the flagship VPL-VW5000ES.
Sony designed the VPL-VW550ES to be “invisible” and “silent. It’s made slim and compact, and available in white and black to remain completely unobtrusive in any living room or home theater environment, according to user requirements. Thanks to the low noise level of the cooling system, nothing will disturb viewers when watching their favorite programs. A long-life Sony lamp with an impressive lamp life of up to 6,000 hours in Low Mode will significantly reduce projector costs and maintenance time.
The VPL-VW550ES replaces the VPL-VW520ES to deliver higher picture quality than its predecessor. It has an impressive brightness of 1,800 lumens, improved dynamic contrast ratio of 350,000:1, uses Sony’s unique 4K technology to deliver cleaner, crisper images compared to others. HDR fundamentally expands the contrast range and even at the highest luminance levels enables the reproduction of halftones so accurately that it presents all the details of the image as the filmmakers saw and sought to show them.
In addition to HDR compatibility for Ultra HD Blu-ray and Over-The-Top OTT content, the new projector will support the Hybrid Log-Gamma HLG standard through a software upgrade, which will appear in future broadcast and user-generated video services. These features let users rest assured that they will continue to watch concerts, sports and other TV programs with the VPL-VW550ES in the highest possible picture quality in the future.
The new model, like its predecessor, provides access to 4K content services through the use of the latest standards HDMI connection HDR compatibility in 4K 24p and 4K 60p and support for HDCP 2.2 two projector inputs HDMI1 and HDMI2. Built-in usa transmitter provides a stable wireless signal with a wide coverage area for stable 3D synchronization.
The VPL-VW550ES will be available in Europe from October 2016. Visitors to IFA 2016 can see it at the Sony booth in Hall 20 at Messe Berlin.
