Sony introduces its most “farsighted” lens with the E mount, the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS super telephoto zoom lens SEL100400GM model . The new full-frame lens retains the high resolution standards that are the hallmark of Sony’s flagship G Master™ lens series, while offering incredibly fast and accurate autofocus, lightweight, portable design, and a variety of professional features and personalization options.

Satisfying all the rigorous demands of the famous Sony G Master™ lens series, the new super telephoto FE 100-400mm GM lens provides remarkable clarity over the entire frame throughout the zoom range and focal lengths, as well as delivering beautiful bokeh background defocus effect, revealing the finest details of objects and surroundings.
The complex optical design consists of 22 lens elements in 16 different groups, including one Super ED glass element Extra-low Dispersion and two ED glass elements, all working together to minimize chromatic aberration and achieve exceptionally high resolution. This lens also uses Sony’s original Nano AR coating, which is especially useful for sports and wildlife photography because it reduces unwanted glare.
Accurate fast autofocus
To keep up with fast-moving subjects, the new FE 100-400mm GM super telephoto zoom lens is equipped with an actuator consisting of a dual linear motor and Direct Drive SSM actuator that enables precise and silent movement of the elements.
The dual linear motor system provides fast drive acceleration to catch sudden subject movement common in sports and wildlife shooting, while precision positioning control and a new optimized autofocus algorithm guarantee fast subject detection and focus. This ensures maximum use of the autofocus capabilities of a camera like the new α9.

In terms of features, this lens features a torque adjustment ring – a first in the Sony α series – that allows the user to adjust the torque level smoothly/tightly to change the focal length faster or slower depending on their shooting style. There is also a focus lock button that can be assigned functions including focus mode selection, AF area selection, or locking the popular eye AF function.
This telephoto zoom lens is protected against dust and moisturei and has a fluoride coating on the front lens to easily remove dirt and grease from the surface. There is also a removable tripod mount.
Professional style and reliability
The new FE 100-400mm GM lens features a built-in optical image stabilization system that delivers sharp images when shooting handheld. It also offers a minimum focus distance of just 0.98m, making it widely used in the field, and features a 9-blade circular aperture that creates a beautiful soft bokeh effect.
The FE 100-400mm GM lens is compatible with 1.4x SEL14TC model and 2.0x SEL20TC model telephoto lens attachments, allowing photographers and videographers to shoot from up to 800mm on a full-frame camera and from about 1200mm 35mm full-frame equivalent on an APS-C camera. A replacement lens hood for the new lens model ALC-SH151 will also be available for sale.
