Ricoh announces development of new GRIII compact camera

Ricoh has officially announced the development of its next-generation APS-C sized compact camera, to be called the GRIII. The camera doesnā€™t look much different from its predecessors, but its internals have been significantly improved.

Photo equipment

Ricoh GRIII will get a new 24MP sensor, a new image processor and a faster hybrid auto-focus system. The camera will also introduce three-axis stabilization based on a shift sensor. 28mm f/2 lens.8 gets a redesigned optical design with 6 elements in 4 groups, including 2 aspherical elements. The minimum focus distance in macro mode will be 6 cm and 10 cm in normal mode.

Other changes include a 3-inch touch screen and 1037,000-dot resolution. The camera will also be capable of 1080p video recording at 60 fps. HDMI will disappear from the connectors, but will be enhanced with USB 3.1 Gen 1 with the ability to charge from external power sources. Bluetooth, headphone and microphone outlets are still absent, but wireless connectivity is achieved through the built-in Wi-Fi module.

Price and availability

Ricoh GRIII will be available in early 2019. Its price will be announced later.
