In the line of “system” cameras Lumix DMC-GH4 continues the series of cameras, successfully claiming a place in the arsenal of cameramen. And it’s more advanced than its predecessors in the professional domain. Which is not surprising, because Panasonic, as well as Sony, is the producer that has recommended itself among the leaders of video industry for a long time.

At the moment of DMC-GH4 appearance it was the only mirrorless camera, capable to record 4K standard movies, where the picture resolution is 4 times higher than Full HD format. The camera supports bitrates up to 200Mbit/s, and to handle such gigantic amounts of data, the developers had to equip the device with a new quad-core processor and a huge buffer memory. On a number of parameters DMC-GH4 keeps leadership, even after occurrence of full-frame Sony A7S. In particular, the “side” effect from the use of powerful computing electronics was the impressive growth of the continuous shooting speed up to 20 fps in RAW format with the duration of 40 fps in the series. Naturally, in this case one would need very productive, and therefore very expensive, third-class UHC-I memory cards. The camera can be also used with external recorder but here it is possible to output 10 bit stream with 4:2:2 sampling. DMC-GH4 is equipped only with analogue audio output and digital HDMI interface. An interface box reminiscent of a rather oversized battery grip can be used as an optional extra. It is in this block that “industry” standard interfaces are located, making it possible to connect the GH4 to professional peripherals: XLR audio connectors, 4-channel SDI. A variety of gamma options, 1 kHz test signal, fine-tuning the synchroscan, and timecode complete, but not exhaustive, the list of this camera’s specific functionality.
