Review of Canon EOS M camera

EOS M, the first mirrorless system camera from a major manufacturer, which was the last one to enter this market. Canon has bravely ignored this popular segment for almost four years. And then cleverly surprised enthusiasts and experts with features of the new system. EOS M is not like PowerShot G1 X Fujifilm showed an example of such transition with models X100 and X-Pro1 , however it doesn’t oversimplify.

Canon EOS M camera

18 mP 18-55 mm, F3,5-5,6 3″ new

The camera is built on the component base of modern EOS DSLRs. The image sensor format APS-C proprietary, slightly reduced size 22,3 × 14,9 mm with a resolution of 18 million pixels, the processor Digic, the same “brain” that is advanced “smart math”, the same, in fact, the interface, in many respects based on touch sensitive display. EOS 650D, only in a compact body and with the new smaller EF-M mount.

Simultaneously with the camera released two lenses: the standard kit zoom 18-55 mm and attractive “pancake” EF-M 22 mm f/2 STM more simply – high-aperture 35 mm “tripod” . Plus an adapter for the classic EF version, giving you access to the widest range of almost any lens from Canon and independent brands.

At the same time, the unit has a lot of “serious” abilities. Except for touch-interface on the body there is only the most basic set of controls less than on some compacts , the display itself is not hinged and not rotary. No viewfinder, no built-in flash either though there is a hot shoe and the new compact blitz Speedlite 90EX . EOS M is a hundred percent implementation of the proverbial formula about the mirror quality in a compact form factor. Only from a compact here not simply the stylized case, but entirely ergonomics and style of work.

Good or bad – the question is not quite correct. The camera provides picture quality at the level of the best non-professional DSLRs, is well assembled the body made of magnesium alloy is reliable and even nice , has a decent software functionality and some stock of “system” functions such as the same work with ambient light or the ability to use an external microphone during video shooting . For a beginner aiming to get away from point-and-shoot cameras and getting better image quality, you could hardly ask for a better one.

And here the experienced amateur photographers and photographers, waiting for a compact addition to the reflex equipment EOS, it is not necessary to hurry. Amateur attitude is unlikely to disappoint – but it won’t please enough either. The manufacturer’s position is clear: all those who need it should concentrate on SLR devices. The question is how the EOS compact lineup will expand in future generations. The chances of getting an enthusiast-oriented counterpart to the G1 X with interchangeable optics are pretty good.

I’m interested in purchasing a camera and I came across your review of the Canon EOS M. It seems like a great option, but I’m wondering about its low-light performance. Can you please provide some insights on how well it handles low-light situations and if the image quality is still impressive? Thank you in advance for your help!
