Mini review of compact cameras Casio Exilim EX-N5/EX-N50

For some ridiculous reason in the market of phototechnics an unspoken rule was established long ago, according to which a budget camera at least in some way should be ugly, boring or shout about its incredibly low price. The exceptions to this rule are few, but they are fortunately there. As, for example, twin brothers EX-N5 and EX-N50.

16 MP 26-156 mm 6x 2.7″ $100

The fact that Casio, in essence an outsider of the photographic market, produces them should not surprise. Those who more or less closely follow the development of cameras, should remember that Casio, which stood at the origins of digital consumer photography, has always been very attentive to the design and has won many awards in this field.

The only difference between the two devices is the finish. More advantageous and interesting looks N50, which has silver stripes showing through the transparent layer of polymer tinted red, blue or gray on the case. Functionally, the devices are not inferior to competitors in its price segment, offering enough zoom for shooting in different genres, and smart automatic modes for sharpening and shooting, and a full video recording function, though with a low resolution, and even an automatic portrait retouching mode.

The Casio Exilim EX-N5/EX-N50 offers decent image quality, considering its price range. Its picture clarity is satisfactory, producing sharp and detailed images in good lighting conditions. However, in low-light situations, the camera struggles a bit, resulting in some noise and loss of clarity. The overall performance in low-light conditions is average, so it may not be the best choice for night photography. Nonetheless, considering its affordability, the camera delivers acceptable image quality and sharpness for everyday use.
