LG HOM-BOT SQUARE VR6270LVM robot vacuum cleaner test

A year ago we tested the robot vacuum cleaner LG VR5905L and noted both its advantages above all, very quiet operation and ergonomics , and disadvantages. And the first place among them was insufficient suction power. And here is the long-awaited novelty – LG HOM-BOT SQUARE, the only vacuum cleaner with a square almost square shape. But the difference from the predecessor not only in the design, developed to better work out the corners by the way, for the same 1.5 cm longer side brushes …

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS

The dust canister has been increased by 200 ml, but the dust canister is as hygienic to clean and easy to remove as before. The HOM-BOT SQUARE is exceptionally beautiful, but it runs quietly. It’s hard to say if it’s up against the competition, against the previous VR5905LM model or against no one in this test, because so far it’s the only one of its kind.

PROGRAMS

Basic modes

Zigzag: The robot goes back and forth until the sensors detect an obstacle. Effective for large areas with few obstacles.

Cage by cage: the robot moves in segments that resemble squares. Suitable for difficult areas with obstacles.

Spot: the robot moves in a wide spiral for spot cleaning in the range of 1.5m².

My space mode

Cleaning algorithm that allows you to clean twice in a specified area with the remote control in Zigzag mode to improve the quality of cleaning.

ERGONOMIC CONTROLS

Control panel

Located on top of the lid and consists of only three buttons and a display. Use the Mode button to select a program each press tells the voice assistant which program has been selected. The Turbo Button allows you to manually activate or deactivate vacuuming with extra suction power and extra brush speed.

On/Off button./off.”Confirm program selection or turn off robot. Home button directs vacuum cleaner to home base. Hold for 3 seconds at a time. With the Turbo and Mode buttons, the control panel can be locked e.g., against children and unlocked. The buttons are even specially connected by an arrow to avoid going through the manual.

Picto display

The pictogram icons on the display show the selected mode, battery level, repeat if activated , timer if activated , turbo mode if activated , current time AM/PM .

Sound signals

Every user action, the beginning and end of the vacuum cleaner, the choice of program or a problem “spoke”: voice prompts make communication with the robot a real pleasure. It even greets the owner when you turn it on! I just wanted to respond and give it a name.

Remote control

Used not only to duplicate the control panel, but also to set the timer, send the vacuum cleaner to the base for recharging if necessary to select the My Space program. It can be used to guide the vacuum cleaner to the dirt and show it the limits of where to clean more thoroughly.

Timer settings

If the current time is set, press the Clock button on the remote control and select the time with the arrows on the remote control. Pressing the Schedule button on the remote control completes the schedule creation process.

CLEANING QUALITY

Conditions: tests were conducted in the showroom of the manufacturer, we tested a promotional model with partial battery capacity, we cleaned a dirty area of about 15 m² with corners and obstacles laminate and a small area of about 1.5 x 2.5 m carpet .

Unlike the home test of the other test models where it was mostly normal dirt , here we were forced to create dirt and, it must be said, we overdid it. It is unlikely that a robot, created not for basic cleaning, but for daily maintenance of cleanliness, in real “life” will have to face the piled all over the surface of tea, flour, crumbs of Styrofoam.

Running with obstacles.

Thresholds. The manufacturer claims to easily overcome 1 cm high thresholds. We didn’t find any in our showroom, but we have an abundance of 1.7-cm-thick Styrofoam panels. And they play the role of thresholds, which the robot moved effortlessly over.

Under furniture. The robot drives easily under furniture with legs that are 9.2 cm or higher. We gave him an obstacle in the form of chairs usual, with 4 legs, and modern, with the U-shaped support . It drove under the legs and into the limits of the support and, without lingering there, got out of the “ambush” easily.

Naturally, the first thing we were interested in this model – the quality of corners. The manufacturer claims that, thanks to its square design and extended side brushes, the new robot grabs corners much better than round models. We did not compare and just decided to estimate novelty capabilities: we poured garbage in the corners. It has to be said that, indeed, almost all the debris our test subject got, there is literally 1 cm² left, but this, believe me, is unattainable with round models, which do not work out the corners at all.

Quality of cleaning on a smooth floor is quite good, and with a microfiber cloth it’s perfect, especially if fine dust is a problem.

The quality of cleaning of the carpet is excellent, especially since the robot automatically turns on turbo mode when you hit the carpet and the suction power increases. If you want more suction on a smooth floor, you can manually activate the suction mode by pressing the button.

The carpet in our test was covered with our Advocaat mixture, but the baby made it. We are still left with a little flour stain, but the program “My Spot” helped: we just put the robot in the spot and let it work hard on it.

NOISE LEVEL

As we mentioned it is a very quiet model, it causes almost no discomfort, only in turbo mode the noise level increases up to 62 dB , but not so much that you want to run away from the room. By the way, you can schedule your cleaning time when you won’t be home – and you won’t hear anything at all.

BASE SEARCH

During the test, the robot found a base and “parked” without any problems. And it always announced what it was doing, “Starting to find base”, “Starting to charge”, “Charging is over”.

DESIGN ERGONOMICS

Dust Collector. The dust canister outlet is on the top, which is much more convenient than the bottom or side outlet. It opens at the touch of a finger: the lid swings open gently and the container can be pulled out by the handle. The dust canister is closed construction, so nothing falls out, it can be easily reached into the trash, and its contents can be emptied in one motion.

Cleaning brushes and other parts. The round brush is collapsible, the roller can be removed and cleaned very easily. Two interchangeable side brushes are included.

Filter change/cleaning. The exhaust filter is replaceable once a year, it is elementary to take out and easy to put in place. Cyclone system dust container is washable.

Extra convenience

The HOM-BOT SQUARE records your sweeping progress on the map, with a memory buffer that records the locations of obstacles. When you do a new cleaning cycle the vacuum cleaner compares the map of the previous cleaning and the given route, analyzes, finds matches and if the maps match cleaning in the same place and with the same obstacles , it cleans faster and more effectively.

Thanks to the Learning function, the vacuum cleaner avoids collisions with obstacles, minimizes approaching dangerous areas stairs, precipices with the help of special sensors and speed reduction.
