IFA 2018: Philips SmartSleep sleep mask

Philips unveiled a mask that optimizes deep sleep at a trade show in Berlin.

Philips’ new SmartSleep is the world’s first and only clinically proven solution to improve sleep quality for people who don’t get enough hours of sleep due to their lifestyle.

Unlike other sleep trackers that collect data on a user’s sleep quality, SmartSleep increases deep sleep duration.

Thanks to two small sensors and advanced algorithms, the device accurately picks up slow phases of sleep and augments them in real time with audible tones.

Smartphone app notices improvement in sleep quality over time and offers advice on how to improve it.

Philips works closely with the Scientific Advisory Board, which consists of world-renowned physicians, scientists and clinicians. These experts have made important contributions to the development of comprehensive SmartSleep innovations.

In a double-blind clinical study, 70% of users reported that SmartSleep made them feel less tired during the day. Participants also showed higher scores on memory and motor skills tests after using the device.

SmartSleep, already on the market in the U.S. and Germany, will be equipped with artificial intelligence AI in the near future to enhance its ability to personalize and adapt to the user experience.

Consumers in the US and new users in Germany are expected to benefit from the new technology later this year.

The device will appear in America in 2019.
