The history of the company began back in 1908 and is closely associated with the name of Murray Spangler, a doorman from Canton, Ohio. His asthma made him think of a solution. A soap dish, a fan, a pillowcase and a broom handle: these are the first parts of an invention that would soon conquer the world. But Murray had no money to promote his invention, and his patent was soon bought by William H. Clover.Hoover, manufacturer and retailer of leather goods. Hoover’s intuition and entrepreneurial flair were not fooled. So, in 1908 the company was founded Hoover.

Hoover had ambitious plans, he wanted to sell vacuum cleaners all over the country. He put an ad in the Saturday Evening Post newspaper, offering everyone who wanted to try the vacuum cleaner free of charge for ten days. Readers were not required to report their desire to participate to the company’s headquarters, but to a reputable store in each city.

Thanks to this innovative strategy, a wide circle of customers was soon formed, as well as a strong network of reputable, respected stores that promoted its products. The company grew so rapidly that over the next three to five years, trade contracts were established with Canada, Britain and Scotland.

In 1932 a production facility was opened in Perivale, West London. Thanks to the rapid pace of growth Hoover company in just a few years has achieved a presence in the markets on four continents.

In 1926, as a result of years of research, the company introduced significant technological improvements to its carpet cleaner. It was a dusting system that consisted of a metal rod that gently kicked up the carpet, a brush that swept away dust and dirt, and a bag to collect the dust. “Whipping out, sweeping in, sweeping out cleans!” was the famous advertising phrase of those years. And this system, with all its many modifications and improvements, to this day forms the basis of high-tech vacuum cleaners Hoover. Further improvements followed in 1936, when Hoover patented the suction tube cleaner that became an integral part of modern vacuum cleaners.

By the end of the 1930s, Hoover was the leading manufacturer of floor care products. But times have changed. World War II brought economic uncertainty and production was redirected to military operations. Production of vacuum cleaners was interrupted with the outbreak of war. The machinery now served a different purpose. Presses for plastic parts were used to produce helmets, and sewing machines were used to make parachutes. This significant material contribution of the company to the war effort received high recognition and numerous awards from the American and British governments.

In the following post-war years, the company returned to its historic business and continued to increase production until the 80’s, when a reorganization of the company’s production, structure and management was undertaken. By 1995, after undergoing a long period of changes in ownership, Hoover European Appliance was bought by the Chengdu Group, which has since represented the brand in Europe, North Africa and in several countries of the Middle East.

Candy Hoover Group is represented in America since 1998.

Undoubtedly a lot has changed today, and over the creation of new models of vacuum cleaners Hoover works not one team of engineers and designers creating beautiful, fashionable and most importantly functional products. But the history of formation and development of the company’s founder, William H.Hoover, his bold ideas and entrepreneurial flair, still inspire his followers to create new and innovative products. So over the years the design of Hoover vacuum cleaners has been working with the famous conceptual design bureau – Momo Design. In their arsenal of production of luxury goods mainly for the automotive racing sector. The result of these “unconventional” collaborations were colorful and technologically advanced models.

Progressive innovation and technology, courageous and bright design – these are the basic principles on which the Hoover is based! It was not for nothing that the name of the company’s founder was the basis for the new verb “to vacuum cleaner.
