First the air passes through the filter system. Inside the evaporator, the flow of purified air is hygienically humidified with water vapor that exits the evaporator and is directed into the room through the Air Amplifier’s aerodynamic profile.
Air Purification
- HEPA filter 360°.
A sealed filter of nine meters of compacted borosilicate microfiber traps 99.95% of particles as small as 0.1 micron such as allergens, bacteria, viruses, and pollen.
Activated carbon coated with tris tris(hydroxymethyl aminomethane increases absorption efficiency by removing gases such as nitrogen oxide and benzene.
Cleaning the water in the humidifier
The Dyson PH01 humidifier air purifier uses a new ultraviolet C UV-C water purification system.
Developers created a Teflon tube with high reflectivity, which allows ultraviolet light to be reflected multiple times along the length of the tube. When the water comes from the tank and passes through the repeatedly reflected rays, the ultraviolet C kills 99.9% of the bacteria in it almost instantly.
Ultraviolet C destroys bacteria in water by damaging their DNA so that they lose their ability to reproduce. This process takes one picosecond a trillionth of a second , but requires intense exposure to the rays.
In developing the Dyson PH01 humidifier-cleaner, engineers conducted extensive research to calculate the optimal dose of ultraviolet C to kill bacteria.
After treatment, water fills the 3D Air-mesh vaporizer tubes. Silver threads woven into the top and bottom of the Air-mesh material create a unique structure with biostatic properties that inhibit bacterial growth on the evaporator.
- Deep cleaning cycle
Water in different regions contains different impurities that can leave mineral deposits, such as scale, on the evaporator. Dyson has developed the deep cleaning cycle for easy and convenient maintenance of the device. This technology allows all components exposed to water to be thoroughly cleaned without time-consuming and labor-intensive work. When cleaning is required, the deep cleaning cycle button lights up and the LCD display shows user instructions.
Monitoring
- Lasers detect fine particles in the air.
- A special sensor detects volatile organic compounds VOCs such as benzene and nitrogen oxide.
- A third one measures relative humidity and temperature.
The unit’s LCD display shows all this information in real time.
New airflow modes
Dyson engineers have applied Jet Axis Control technology.
There are two valves on each side of the airfoil that are independently controlled. This allows you to run directional cooling or oscillation mode, and in the winter months, diffuse airflow mode or the new breeze mode.
- Breeze mode
Many of us enjoy the refreshing sensation of a natural breeze on a hot day – what we call thermal allesthesia. So Assistant Chief Research Engineer Tim Jukes and his team used a precision 3-axis ultrasonic anemometer to collect more than 40 million observations from eight measurement points at the Dyson Research Center in Malmesbury. With this in mind, Tim’s team developed an algorithm that mimics natural air currents with oscillating jets of air to create the feeling of a refreshing breeze indoors.
- Directional airflow mode
In this mode, the aerodynamic profile remains fixed, creating a powerful frontal flow of purified air. It refreshes and purifies indoor air in summer at the same time.
- Ambient airflow mode
Jet Axis Control valves rotate to the closed position, the aerodynamic profile opens and air is discharged from the back of the unit using Air Amplifier technology. In this way, the Dyson PH01 humidifier-cleaner cleans and humidifies the air without making it feel cool.
With Air Multiplier technology, the Dyson PH01 humidifier-purifier distributes purified humidified air throughout the room.
Designed for real homes
Dyson air conditioners are built to work in real homes.
Industry standards use a laboratory test method to evaluate the performance of air purifiers in a compact chamber measuring just 12 m2 with an additional fan on the ceiling for air circulation and only one sensor to measure air quality.
To bring testing closer to real-world conditions, Dyson engineers decided to find a better methodology.
The Dyson POLAR is tested in a large 27m2 room, without an additional fan, and air quality data is collected by eight sensors in the corners of the room and one in the center. With this test, which measures the speed and uniformity of humidification, our engineers ensure that the Dyson PH01 humidifier-cleaner provides uniform cleaning and humidification throughout the room.
