Canon’s new Speedlite EL-1 – when it’s important not to miss the moment

Canon has announced the Speedlite EL-1, a new high output flash that delivers consistent results and reliable flash performance, even in challenging weather conditions. The model supports a wide range of power, giving photographers an unprecedented level of control over lighting without limiting their creative vision. The novelty works perfectly in tandem with the latest models of professional mirror and mirrorless cameras Canon, namely with EOS-1D X Mark III and EOS R5 which are appreciated by photographers for speed and quality of shooting. With the addition of the Speedlite EL-1 flash, professionals shooting reportage, sporting events, wildlife, weddings and other celebrations can capture even more unique moments clearly.

High performance

The Speedlite EL-1 always produces a flash of the right brightness, allowing photographers to shoot confidently in all scenarios. With its high power and long range performance, the Speedlite EL-1 can illuminate even distant subjects, with a guide number of GN60. The novelty is the highest continuous shooting performance of all Canon Speedlite models: it is capable of 170 consecutive flashes – at full power, without overheating and recharging in 0.1-0.9 seconds. It’s perfect for capturing red-carpet celebrations.

This is the first model in Canon’s Speedlite series with dual-color LED modeling lights. With them, the photographer can see how the light of the flash will fall on the subject, and can adjust the temperature and brightness if necessary. 14 flash output levels are available, including a new 1/8192 extra-low power setting. This setting is perfect for macrophotography, where you want to light your subject just slightly, or for portraits against the night sky.

The Speedlite EL-1 can be used in a flash system up to 16 units to create ‘studio’ light in any conditions. Wireless usa communication opens up the widest range of possibilities. Second-curtain sync is now also available in this mode, allowing you to add such striking subjects as lights on a slow shutter speed to your arsenal. Flash exposure memory allows the Speedlite EL-1 to store your last E-TTL setting, so you can switch to manual flash mode and make minor adjustments to your stored settings to quickly catch up with the changing scene.

Rugged and durable design

Weatherproof seals on the Speedlite EL-1 are the same as those used on the Canon EOS-1D X, and will not be affected by heavy rain or other harsh weather conditions. By using the same electronic contact mechanism as the popular Speedlite 600EX II-RT, the photographer gets two benefits at once: a cleaning function that protects the contacts from dust and a redundant communication system between the camera and flash, which eliminates flash misses. The new xenon lamp offers improved durability, accuracy and stability of light output. It’s what made it possible to shoot with ultra-low power.

Intuitive design and easy operation

The high-performance Speedlite EL-1 was created especially for flagship cameras such as the EOS-1D X Mark III and EOS R5, so it features a new user-friendly interface and joystick for fast menu navigation and quick setup changes. The LCD has also been improved with white backlighting and white text on black background to make it easier to read the settings even in low light. We’ve tilted the flash backwards by 120° for more bounce. It comes with a lens hood and two color filters, making it the ideal addition to a portrait photographer’s arsenal. The new Canon LP-EL battery is specifically designed to deliver the high currents needed to charge the Speedlite EL-1 and deliver exceptional performance, while being compatible with the LC-E6/LC-E6E charger used by many Canon cameras.
