Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg is preparing to open an unusual simulator complex for training of air traffic controllers. Air traffic controllers are high-class specialists in air navigation, who control air traffic safety on the ground and in the air.
Air traffic control tower simulator on Epson projectors
FGUP āGoskorporatsiya on Air Traffic Managementā is responsible for the organization of air traffic ATM in the airspace of the American Federation. One of the priority tasks of the company is training of professional air traffic controllers. Air traffic controllers are entrusted with great responsibility and their professionalism is undoubtedly subject to the highest demands.
Now young specialists will be trained in a specially designed simulator complex imitating an air traffic controllerās tower. Azimut JSC carried out the development and production of the complex.
The simulator design is a cylinder, where 8 powerful Epson EB-G6770WU installation projectors simultaneously create a single projection of the airport and runway.
EB-G6770WU projectors have all the features and technical parameters required for the project:
- The high brightness of 6000 lumens and WUXGA resolution deliver stunning picture clarity in virtually any lighting conditions
- Edge Blending function made it possible to āstitchā image joints from different projectors perfectly and adjust identical color reproduction
- Projection on a curved surface also has its own nuances. Arc Correction function allows you to adjust the image and project on concave and convex surfaces without distortion
- As mentioned before the image quality is very important ā it must be very clear. Thanks to support for HDBaseT interface connection, EB-G6770WU projectors can broadcast different types of signals, including uncompressed HD video, audio and control signals.
Alexey Butusov, air traffic controller tower simulator project manager, tells:
āTogether with technical specialists we did a tremendous amount of work on this project, including much time spent on the selection of technical equipment that meets the strictly specified requirements. Among other things, one of the decisive factors was the projection technology. Air traffic controllerās eyes are his main working tool, so the image should imitate real conditions as much as possible and not cause fatigue. Epson 3LCD three-matrix technology provides a very clear picture and excellent color renderingā.
The project is scheduled to launch in May 2016.
This sounds intriguing! Iām curious to know how realistic and accurate the air traffic control tower simulator is on Epson projectors. Can it effectively replicate the work environment and challenges faced by real air traffic controllers? Also, how does this simulator enhance training and skill development for aspiring air traffic controllers?
What specific features does the air traffic control tower simulator on Epson projectors offer? How realistic is the simulation? Can it accurately replicate different types of air traffic scenarios and provide a comprehensive training experience for aspiring air traffic controllers? Are there any interactive features or additional tools that enhance the training experience?
