AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5 super telephoto lens.6E FL ED VR is made using nanotechnology…

January 29, 2013. Nikon announces a new super telephoto lens with fixed focal length and special teleconverter. In the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5 lens.6E FL ED VR and AF-S TC800-1 teleconverter.25E ED uses high-end components and advanced technology to reduce weight, improve ergonomics and enhance image quality. This is the first NIKKOR lens to incorporate innovative technologies and materials such as electromagnetic aperture control and fluorite lens elements, as well as tried-and-tested features such as vibration reduction and Nano Crystal Coat.

AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR

With the longest focal length in the NIKKOR lineup, this premium lens is ideal for professional photojournalists and media workers. Where it is not possible to get close to the subject, the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR provides additional coverage, bringing the subject closer to the camera.

“We designed this lens with the demands of the most demanding professional photographers in mind,” said Zurab Kiknadze, product manager, lenses, accessories and software at Nikon Europe. – Not only have we slimmed down the traditionally heavy super-telephoto lens and equipped it with new NIKKOR technologies, but we’ve also gone further by developing a tunable tele conversion lens that extends the focal length of the lens, making it a true flagship of our super-telephoto lineup.

Nikon announced the development of the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5 lens.6E FL ED VR in summer 2012. Its prototypes were shown at Photokina in Cologne and tested during major sporting events, where they received positive feedback.

Lightweight body and fluorite elements

For a lens with such a wide range of capabilities AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR is surprisingly light and well-balanced. This has been achieved by manufacturing the body from a lightweight, durable magnesium alloy, as well as an improved optical design that includes two elements of fluorite.

The optical system consists of 20 elements in 13 groups, including two fluorite elements and two ED glass elements. Fluorite elements are placed at the front, so the front of the lens is lighter and the center of gravity is shifted back for comfortable operation and stability.

Fluorite elements also deliver superb optical performance, creating high clarity with minimal chromatic aberration. At the same time, they have much lower dispersion than even high quality ED glass. Nikon’s anti-reflective Nano Crystal Coat is used to produce clear images with minimal glare and ghosting.

The lens also includes a rounded meniscus safety glass and a 52mm diameter NC neutral filter. On the back of the lens there is a handy filter holder for insertion filters with a diameter of 52 mm.

High-precision electromagnetic iris control

Electromagnetic diaphragm ensuring high precision control with an extremely low error rate.In addition, this high-precision mechanism enhances the stability of automatic exposure control during continuous shooting and improves accuracy – especially when the lens is used together with a teleconverter, which requires a dual aperture link.

Vibration Reduction VR mechanism, which allows you to take pictures at shutter speeds up to four stops slower, also improves sustainability. Normal and active modes ensure stable shooting with different camera amplitudes and speeds, while automatic tripod detection suppresses shutter release vibration when the camera is mounted on a tripod. AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5 integrated in the lens.6E FL ED VR tripod foot improves balance when attached to a tripod.

The lens has a silent ultrasonic motor SWM which enables fast and accurate focusing. Three focus modes are available: A/M autofocus with manual override, AF priority mode , M/A instantaneous switching from autofocus to manual control in any AF mode and M manual .

AF-S TC800-1.25E ED Teleconverter

Special teleconverter

Comes with each AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5 lens.6E FL ED VR comes with an AF-S TC800-1 teleconverter. The 25E ED is the first teleconverter to include an ED glass element for chromatic aberration correction. In lenses with long focal lengths, this phenomenon occurs especially often.

Designed exclusively for use with the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5 lens.6E FL ED VR not sold separately , each teleconverter specially tuned for a specific lens, provides superior optical performance and extends the lens focal length up to 1000mm.

The lens and special teleconverter come in a hard case CT-801 for convenient and safe transportation.
