Sony has introduced a new type of camera that gives completely new shooting capabilities and inspires limitless creative means for anyone who picks it up. The ultra compact and shock-resistant RX0 full model name: DSC-RX0 combines the image quality of Sony RX-series cameras with the advanced photo and video capabilities.
New Features
Designed to push the limits of photographic and videographic expression and make artistic photography and videography easier. RX0 is equally great for regular stills and video, but can also be used as part of a multi-camera configuration for expressive sequences, video and super slow motion capture from multiple points. Its diminutive size and versatility gives you maximum freedom and allows you to approach photographic and videographic tasks in a new way, with the same confidence in high quality results.
Weighing just 110g and measuring 59mm x 40.5mm x 29.8mm WxHxD , the RX0 changes how small and light a professional-grade camera can be. It can be used as a stand-alone camera to take photos or videos in all conditions – in the rain or underwater, in sand or dust, and in a multi-camera configuration to capture a subject from multiple locations.
Stimulates the imagination
In addition to “Bullet Time” and “Time Slice” special effects shooting, the multi-camera system using RX0 cameras opens the door to a new world of imaging possibilities and can be organized in several different configurations. Sony’s FA-WRC1M wireless radio controller can be used to release the shutter on 15 RX0 cameras. The PlayMemories™ Mobile app links up to five RX0 cameras wirelessly and the perfectly balanced shape factor means it’s easy to mount them in the most challenging positions to capture unusual angles.
A wireless multi-camera system is currently under development, allowing more RX0 cameras to be connected if an access point is used. The release of this system as a hardware-software upgrade module is scheduled for January 2018. For users who require a more robust wired connection, a camera control module is also under development, which will also be released in January 2018.
High technical level
Featuring a host of advanced Sony technologies, the RX0 uses a multi-layer, 15.3 megapixel vivi CMOS sensor, Exmor RS™ 1.0″ BIONZ X® image processor and ZEISS® Tessar T* 24mm F4 wide-angle fixed focal length lens to deliver high resolution and reduced distortion in both RAW and JPEG photos and all supported video formats.
This camera has an anti-distortion shutter with a shutter speed of up to 1/32000 seconds and is capable of shooting video at up to 16 frames per second, which means that even fast-moving subjects will be reproduced perfectly and accurately. For those who want to capture the fun in day-to-day life, the RX0’s compact size makes it almost invisible, giving you maximum opportunity for natural, high-quality footage.
The RX0 is waterproof to a depth of 10m and when used with the new MPK-HSR1 the camera can dive to great depths of 100m. Shock-resistant housing protects against drops up to 2m and can withstand up to 200kg 2,000N, making it rugged enough to shoot in demanding environments where traditional cameras simply can’t withstand. Users can now create content that wasn’t possible before. Rain, sand, confined space or dust are no longer an obstacle.

The RX0 was conceived as a camera that delivers the same level of image quality in both stills and video, and this concept is evident in a host of creative video features that deliver stunning results in movie-making. For those who want to include super slow motion in their movies, the RX0 offers the ability to shoot at up to 1000 frames per second, allowing you to turn the most ordinary moment into something spectacular.
For easy production, you can use the clear 4K signal output via HDMI to transfer uncompressed video to an external recorder. With MF Assist and Peaking, focus can be fine-tuned to your specifications, while Picture Profile and S-Log2 give you the creative freedom to achieve your intended end result. The Timecode/Bit User functions are an important tool, especially for multi-camera shooting, and Preset Focus settings serve as an additional element of shooting control.
