The mirrorless camera FUJIFILM X-M1 has a large APS-C CMOS sensor which is almost as good as a full-size camera

FUJIFILM Corporation announces , third premium interchangeable lens camera from Fujifilm. The lightweight and compact X-M1 has improved ergonomics while retaining the superior design, image quality and speed of the famous FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and X-E1. It will be of interest not only to photography enthusiasts but also to ordinary users. The same award-winning 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor used in the FUJIFILM X-Pro1 FUJIFILM X-E1.

Fujifilm

– The FUJIFILM X-M1 features a large APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor that’s almost as good as a full-size sensor in terms of image quality. Unique color filter minimises moiré and chromatic aberration. And the lack of an optical low-pass filter greatly increases the resolution even with the same number of pixels, providing clear and rich images.

– Sensor design to unleash the potential of high-performance lenses. Images are amazingly clear and exhibit low noise even when shot in low light at night or indoors , when high sensitivity is normally required. The sensor faithfully reproduces warm skin tones and rich skies as deep blues fade into the reds of a setting sun.

– Users can select the appropriate sensor sensitivity from ISO200 to ISO6400 in 1/3-step increments. What’s more, to capture incredibly sharp images with low noise even in low light or at night, you can take advantage of the extended sensitivity range of ISO12800 and ISO25600.

Instantaneous response with Fujifilm EXR Processor II

The high-performance EXR Processor II takes the worry out of the equation for photographers

– 0.5 seconds power-on time (*1

– Shutter time lag of 0.05 seconds

– maximum continuous shooting speed of 5.6 frames per second no more than 30 frames*2.

Intuitive one-handed operation and quick feature selection to create great photos when shooting without preparation

– The location of all the programmable buttons and dials on the right side of the back panel makes it easy to use the camera in unexpected situations. Holding the camera in your right hand, you can easily operate all functions and make adjustments.

– The mode dial lets you choose the best settings for a given scene, as well as enabling Advanced SR Auto, which automatically recognizes the type of scene you’re shooting, eliminating gross errors, and Advanced Filter for applying artistic effects.

– Camera has two dials that can be rotated with the thumb to quickly adjust aperture, shutter speed and exposure compensation. Separate buttons for frequently used functions such as white balance, continuous mode and macro save you from having to jump to the menu screen every time you want to change a setting. These operations are intuitive and very fast.

Compact and lightweight body with the retro look inherited from FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and X-E1

– The X-M1’s classically elegant design is reminiscent of the popular FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and X-E1. In addition, the camera’s compact and lightweight design allows the user to carry it in a bag normally without worrying that it will be too heavy.

– Despite its large APS-C CMOS sensor, high-resolution tiltable LCD, built-in flash, Wi-Fi and hot shoe, the X-M1 weighs only 330 grams(*3 .

– The X-M1 will be available in three colors: Black, Silver and Brown.

Three-inch high-resolution 920,000-dot , tiltable LCD screen for creative shooting

– The three-inch high-resolution LCD screen can be tilted up and down. This makes it easier to take pictures of flowers and animals at ground level, as well as pictures above people in crowds. It’s also great for video shooting on a tripod, expanding your creative options.

Photo equipment

FUJIFILM Super-Intelligent Flash Technology that adjusts flash intensity according to the scene

– The X-M1’s high-precision built-in flash has a guide number equivalent to 7(*4 , FUJIFILM super-Intelligent Flash technology that adjusts light intensity according to the scene being shot. For portraits in dimly lit rooms and close-up shots of small objects or food, the flash can set the light intensity to reduce the blur of highlights. The flash also provides an excellent “fill-in” light when photographing people in backlit rooms or in bright sunlight, where a person’s face can be subjected to harsh shadows.

Wireless transfer function lets you send high-quality images to your mobile device or computer instantly

– Wireless transfer feature lets you quickly send photos to your smartphone or tablet computer. Plus, you can share the joy of your successful photos with friends and family by uploading your favorite shots to social media sites or sending them directly to available devices.

– Built-in wireless shot transfer function that, together with the free FUJIFILM Camera App, allows you to instantly send selected photos to your smartphone or tablet. One-click Wi-Fi uploads your favorite shots to social networks or to your friends.

– Smartphone or tablet users can also send images and video to the camera from their devices. In addition, this feature knows how to acquire location data from your smartphone and add this data to the images you create.

– PC Autosave automatic saving to computer via Wi-Fi®*5 – is an easy way to archive images on your home computer. Just install the free FUJIFILM PC AutoSave software on your PC and select a folder for saved photos. Then connect X-M1 to a Wi-Fi hotspot and send photos straight to your home computer. Both functions are incredibly useful and save you time!

The mention of the large APS-C CMOS sensor in the FUJIFILM X-M1 is intriguing, but does it really provide the same image quality as a full-size camera? How does its performance compare in terms of image resolution, low-light capabilities, and dynamic range?
