The hood care program

A hood is an appliance that requires periodic maintenance. What it consists of? Hood maintenance involves two activities: taking care of the exterior cleanliness and the filters.

Pre-filter

Permanent. Temporary mats include disposable polymeric mats made of acrylic, sintepon, fleecerin. As they are used, their pores get clogged and the filter capacity decreases, so after a certain period of time the filter is discarded and a new one is put in place. Some housewives simply wash the full filter and then use it again. But it won’t effectively trap dirt, just contain the air flow, increasing the load on the motor and accelerating wear and tear, and increasing noise levels. The cost of a new filter is about 100-200 Dollars., Regular filter changes are not covered by the warranty.

Maintenance program for temporary filters, frequency once every 1-2 months:

Unplug the appliance. Open the hood. Remove the filter and replace it with a new one. Close the hood and reconnect it to the mains supply.

Permanent filters stainless steel or aluminum cassettes must be rinsed periodically in soapy water or washed in the dishwasher. Pay attention to the accessible parts of the hood interior at the same time and remove any dirt from these as well.

Maintenance program for permanent filters, frequency every 200-250 hours of operation or every 2-4 months:

Unplug the appliance. For models with perimeter suction, open the central panel. Remove the filters and rinse them by hand or in the dishwasher. Dry. Refit. Plug in.

Handwashing:

Prepare hot water, dissolve dish detergent in it and soak the filter for 1 hour. Then rinse in hot water with a brush.

To avoid surface defects and stains, do not use scouring powders and creams, descalers, grill and oven sprays, and soda ash. Rinse. Dry it by laying it horizontally on a towel.

Washing in a dishwasher:

Program settings: Intense program, water temperature up to 65°C. Washing dishes and other items at the same time is not advisable.

The cassettes are placed vertically in the bottom box of the dishwasher, so that the dirt flows down freely. Care must be taken during installation to ensure that the filter does not interfere with the movement of the beater.

The filter will be dry at the end of the cycle and can be immediately reinserted.

Charcoal Extraction

The recirculation mode also uses charcoal filters. They too look like cassettes, but are made of plastic and mesh and

Extractor charcoal filter

Filled with charcoal chips. The vast majority of them are disposable and must be periodically replaced. It’s best to combine taking care of the grease filter and changing the charcoal filter. The cost of one filter can be from 300 Dollars., A set of two – from 500 to 1500 Dollars., Regular filter replacement is not covered under warranty.

To prolong the life of a single filter or filter pack , it is a good idea to leave the hood running for a few minutes after each use to remove any moisture residue: the charcoal particles will not cake and consequently the absorbent surface and air purifying efficiency will not be reduced.

Maintenance program for disposable charcoal filters, frequency is specified by the manufacturer, about once every 3-6 months or once a year like Siemens filters :

Unplugging the appliance. Open the hood. Take out the grease filters, then remove the charcoal filters from the fan, throw them away, and replace them with new ones.

Reusable charcoal

Some manufacturers use reusable charcoal filters – these companies are Elica, AEG, Teka. Their service life is about three years if we periodically wash them in the dishwasher. Filters must be replaced after the specified time, as they lose twice their absorption capacity. The cost of one filter is more than 1300 Dollars.

Maintenance program for reusable charcoal filters, periodicity once every 1-2 months:

Unplug the appliance. Open the hob. Remove the grease filters, then remove the charcoal filters from the fan.

Settings:

– dishwasher: intensive program, water temperature up to 65°C

– oven: temperature 100 ° C.

To put the cassettes in the dishwasher, washing dishes and other items at the same time is not desirable. After completing the cycle, place the filter on a tray, place in the oven for 10 min. Then cooled at room temperature and returned to its place, behind it are laid grease filters.
