The Cactus RQ250 is a palm-sized, wirelessly controlled monoblock.

The lightweight and portable Cactus RQ250 is specifically designed for photographers who want to shoot on location without being burdened by cumbersome lighting equipment. In its modest size, the monoblock delivers 250 watts of pulse power, three times the power of the conventional GN60.

In fact, the RQ250 is so powerful for its form factor that the company couldn’t find a lamp that matched the performance of the new monoblock, so Cactus designed its own TubeOne lamp from the ground up. The new lamp, combined with an optically optimized reflector with frosted glass, minimizes hot spots and ensures even distribution of light output. With reflector removed the monoblock can be installed into softboxes or umbrellas and is compatible with Bowens-S mounts through a special adapter.

RQ250 has a built-in fan, which allows to use the device in hot weather. The monoblock also supports high-speed sync mode for fast shutter speeds and wireless TTL control compatible with Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sigma and Sony cameras. The LED lamp installed in the RQ250 is on the same axis as the flash lamp and is used to create pilot light, and can also act as autofocus illumination. The monoblock is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that allows up to 400 flashes at full power on a single charge.

Price and availability

According to assurances from the manufacturer, the RQ250 monoblock will be available this summer, the price of the device is not specified
