Test of the system with two Casio XJ-SK600 laser-LED DLP projectors

Casio is a recognized pioneer in the development of laser-LED projectors. The company was the first on the market to introduce a hybrid light source, doing away with lamps altogether, and is now producing models with up to 4000 ANSI-Lm.

However, certain areas of the market require even more powerful equipment. Casio has offered its own variant of the decision of this problem – has developed the stack system XJ-SK600 consisting of two projectors. Their total luminous flux is 6000 ANSI-Lm, which greatly exceeds the power of any existing laser-LED projector and allows the system to compete with two-lamp illumination devices.

MODEL DESCRIPTION

The idea of replacing expensive high-powered projectors with multiple units stacked together is not new. But traditionally this solution requires the use of two or more models with a offset optic, which are also not cheap moreover, the cost of replacing the lamps in these devices is very high

The space between the projectors and the accessories is very large. XJ-SK600 allows

combine images from two projectors without lens shift function – by processing and correcting both projected images. To make it possible, the system includes an additional element – a geometric correction panel. This small device plays a key role in the XJ-SK600.

The thing about the XJ-SK600 is that it is a one-of-a-kind product. It comes fully assembled with the projectors mounted in the case and the geometric correction panel installed. All cables required to connect projectors to the panel and the remote control are also included. The system is equipped with two WXGA resolution Casio XJ-M250 series projectors that do not require changing lamps – the laser-LED light sources have a lifetime of up to 20,000 hours and do not grow dim over time. So the XJ-SK600 is suitable for a variety of applications, including 24/7 digital signage, which can provide many years of light source life.

The projectors consume less power than lamp models and contain no mercury. In addition, they support smart dimming – can change power depending on the level of light in the room reduce the brightness when it’s dark, so as not to waste energy . The XJ-M250s are based on DLP technology that gives them a high contrast ratio of 1800:1.

The system case has a well-thought-out design. It is designed in such a way that it is easy to change the position of the projectors relative to each other. One unit is rigidly mounted, the other on a sliding platform, the angle of which can be adjusted by means of special screws on the housing. This enables individual positioning of the projectors in relation to each other. The housing itself is made of metal, the access to the connector panels of the units is hidden behind a lockable door. In the case also made holes for hidden cable routing – they can be pulled from the projectors to the geometric correction panel even with the door closed. There is space between the projectors for cables and other accessories.

The XJ-SK600 includes ceiling mounts for mounting on the ceiling and a 90-degree angle for upright projection. If for some reason the external geometric correction panel interferes with the installation of the system, it can be detached from the housing.

The Geometric Correction Panel coordinates the operation of the projectors and adapts the projected images so that they blend together. Connection to the signal source is also through the panel. The connectors on the panel are grouped according to their functions. On one side of the device there are inputs for external signal sources connection – HDMI, VGA, RS-232C service and LAN-port for LAN control. On the other side are the output jacks for the signal output to the projectors in the system itself. Only HDMI cables are used for connection with the geometric correction panel, VGA cables are not available. If necessary, you can also connect the panel to the devices and service cables via RS-232G ports

The XJ-SK600 not only lets you align and correct images projected on flat screens and walls, but also on cylindrical and even freely uneven surfaces. Each type of surface has its own grid pattern for 81-point correction. We tested the capabilities of the system on the most common solution – projection on a flat screen, as well as on a cylindrical surface.

Templates are corrected by a number of key points

the first image alignment step is to adjust the projectors themselves-adjust their position inside the cabinet, adjust the zoom and focus The XJ-M250 is equipped with manual lens controls, so there are openings in the cabinet for access to the lens control knobs. Then we will set some parameters for the devices, still using their own remote control. It is better to do it one by one, so that the setting of one unit does not affect the other, and then the XJ-M250 remote control can be put aside, and from that moment on the process of matching projections, switching the whole system on and off, etc. d. Controllable by remote control geometric correction panel.

The remote control of the panel is different in appearance and functionality from the remote control for the projectors. Buttons used for geometric correction of images are located in a separate block. The panel can be controlled by buttons on its casing. Menus of both projectors and geometric correction panel are simple and clear, all devices allow the selection of American language.

During the geometric correction the system projects two balls on the screen at the same time, each projector has its own color. By choosing one or the other projector and moving the individual points of the templates corners, center, etc.d. , you can combine two images into one. Shift pitch is adjustable – for example, first it is convenient to adjust the pictures approximately, then – more accurately, in fine increments

Alignment of images on a flat screen – the process is simple and boils down mainly to the correction of angles and center. In the test it took only minutes to perform this operation. Aligning pictures on a cylindrical surface is more difficult: the images are more distorted, and therefore it is necessary to adjust the position of not only the corners and center, but also a number of other points. Nevertheless, on the XJ-SK600, this adjustment takes only slightly longer than when projecting on a flat screen. After all operations, a single high-brightness image is obtained, which is clearly distinguishable even in a room with a strong backlight.

If necessary, the correction panel can also be used for operation with a single projector, in which case it will help to adjust the image projected by the device on uneven or cylindrical surfaces.

Can you please provide some details about the performance and potential limitations of the Casio XJ-SK600 laser-LED DLP projectors when tested together? How is the image quality, brightness, and color accuracy? Are there any issues with heat dissipation or operating noise? And what about the connectivity options and ease of setup? Your insights would be greatly appreciated.
