Sony: Triple Win in TIPA 2012

Once again, Sony products have won recognition from industry experts. The best DSLR for advanced photographers: the SLT-A65. Best compact system camera for professionals: NEX-7. Best media: XQD memory cards.

The prestigious TIPA Technical Image Press Association has once again recognised Sony’s innovations in digital photography.

The Sony SLT-A65 won “Best Digital SLR for Experienced Photographers” and impressed the judges in particular

TIPA Awards 2012 “as the world’s first electronic viewfinder, with an OLED screen and real-time preview of camera settings. The “impressive 2,359,000-dot viewing quality is said to mark the achievement of ultra-clear high resolution”.

TIPA members also pointed out that “the SLT-A65’s Translucent Mirror technology combines a number of innovations with a high-quality 24.3 MP sensor to deliver still images at 10 frames per second at maximum resolution, real-time preview and phase auto focus in all modes, including HD video recording.

The camera also features three HD movie modes, including 25p and 50p, both in Full HD. For web cameramen, the SLT-A65 lets you shoot video in MP4 format.

Sony NEX-7 compact camera

The Sony NEX-7 compact system camera, according to TIPA experts, combines outstanding image quality with flexible settings to give photographers an unforgettable shooting experience.

In explaining why the NEX-7 was chosen as the winner of the Best Compact System Camera for Professionals category, the TIPA jury noted the following: “The NEX-7 is a compact interchangeable-lens camera designed to deliver the same shooting quality as a professional DSLR.

It uses the same 24-megapixel sensor as the SLT-A77 professional DSLR, but the NEX-7 is more compact and has a handy electronic viewfinder with a pivoting OLED hinge screen.

Its sleek design, accentuated by its metallic construction, makes this model stand out from the crowd. It features numerous special effects modes, such as Sweep Panorama and Auto HDR, and shoots up to 10 frames per second, as well as a wide range of HD movie functions.

Finally, the Sony XQD memory card, voted “Best Media,” received the following review from the judging panel: “Sony memory cards

XQD memory cards meet the growing needs of today’s professional photographers and videographers.

With read/write speeds as fast as 125 Mbps as tested in the Nikon D4s camera , the card can record about 100 RAW images in continuous shooting mode.”.

TIPA members were “particularly impressed with the card’s rough surface and integrated pins, as well as the PCIe interface and controller, which outperforms traditional CompactFlash cards”.

Sony’s new XQD memory cards take digital imaging to new levels of speed and performance.

Providing the highest quality and dependable RAW image recording, these new memory cards are suitable for amateur photographers and professionals alike. Cards are used in high-end digital single-lens reflex cameras that support the XQD format.

Shoot up to 100 frames in RAW format* thanks to the superfast data transfer and writing speeds of the PCIe interface data transfer and writing speeds of up to 125 Mbps and 1 Gbps, respectively . XQD memory cards are not yet for sale in America.
