Canon has won six TIPA awards for 2012

New York, America, April 17, 2012. – Canon announced today that it has won six awards from the Photographic Industry Publishers Association TIPA , Europe’s leading organization for photography professionals. TIPA Awards recognize the best products brought to market in the previous year. They are considered the most prestigious marks of recognition in the global imaging and processing industry. The 2012 Awards again highlight the high quality of all Canon products, including the revolutionary new Cinema EOS range.

Expert jury TIPA, consisting of editors from leading European photography magazines, annually discusses the latest products, while taking into account all the details: innovation, design and overall quality of the product. Jury selects and recognizes the best products in imaging over the previous 12 months. This year’s honors went to the following Canon products:

Best Professional DSLR Camera nomination: Canon EOS-1D X

Canon’s new advanced professional DSLR camera combines the advantages of a full-frame image sensor with the high speed and high sensitivity needed for news, sports and wildlife photographers.

An 18-megapixel CMOS image sensor and two DIGIC 5+ processors enable the EOS-1D X to strike the perfect balance between image quality and shooting speeds of up to 14 frames per second. Standard ISO range of 100-51,200, expandable to 50 and 204,800.

New 61 point AF system with 41 central crosshair sensors – fastest and most accurate of its kind. It allows the camera to detect and track fast-moving subjects, even in low-light conditions. Full-HD video capture and a built-in Ethernet port complete the offering for this professional model.

Best Expert Level Compact Camera nomination: Canon PowerShot G1 X

Image quality is often associated with interchangeable lenses, but in reality, the two are not necessarily linked.

Canon understands that many photographers want the same image quality as a DSLR – but they want that capability in a compact, stylish body with a good fixed zoom lens.

The PowerShot G1 X has a large 14.3 megapixel 4:3 CMOS sensor 18.7mm x 14mm , similar in size to the APS-C sized sensors used in EOS DSLRs. The result is a compact camera that delivers great image quality even in low light.

Best Lens for Professional Digital SLR Camera: Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM fisheye
