Sony announces the judging panel for the Sony World Photography Awards 2022

The World Photography Organization is pleased to present the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 Jury and announce upcoming exhibition dates. The Sony World Photography Awards exhibit returns to Somerset House in London in April 2022, and in November it will be shown for the first time at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool.

Now in its fifteenth year, the Sony World Photography Awards is one of the world’s leading photography competitions, celebrating the best contemporary work from around the world, giving entrants widespread exposure and rich career opportunities.

Sony supports the competition by furthering the culture of photography and offering a global platform to promote new talent. Participation in the competition is completely free, and entries will be judged anonymously by a panel of judges that includes leading industry experts.

JUDGES FOR 2022

This year’s judging panel includes experts with extensive knowledge and experience in a wide range of aspects of photography.

Professional competition

▪ Rahaab Allana, curator and publisher, Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, New Delhi.

▪ Angela Ferreira &Acirc ngela Ferreira, artist, freelance curator, writer, and educator.

▪ Nathalie Herschdorfer, director of the Museum of Fine Arts Le Locle, Switzerland.

▪ Deborah Klochko, executive director and chief curator of the Museum of Photographic Art in San Diego, Calif.

▪ Richmond Orlando Mensah, founder and creative director of Manju Journal, Ghana.

▪ Mike Trow, independent curator and photo editor, chairman of the jury.

DATES OF THE SHOWS IN 2022 AND DATES OF THE EUROPEAN TOUR IN 2021

The 2022 Sony World Photography Awards returns to London’s Somerset House and will take place from April 15 to May 2, 2022, and later will be first presented at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, from November 10 to December 11, 2022.

We are also pleased to announce upcoming dates for the Sony World Photography Awards 2021 at various venues across Europe, including:

  • Berlin, Germany, Willy-Brandt Haus, 28 October 2021 to 12 January 2022.

  • Paris, France, Galerie Joseph, 5 to 15 November 2021.

  • Bern, Austria, Foto Zumstien, September 9 – October 6, 2021.

PRIZES AND DEADLINES FOR THE 2022 CONTEST

The call for entries for the Sony World Photography Awards began June 1, 2021.

The following contest entry deadlines have been established:

  • Professional Competition: January 14, 2022, 1pm GMT.

  • Open Competition: Jan. 7, 2022, 1 p.m. GMT.

  • Student competition: November 30, 2021, 1 p.m. Greenwich time.

  • Youth competition: competitions with monthly changing themes will be held from July 1 to December 31, 2021

Category winners in the Professional, Open, Junior and Student competitions will be rewarded with Sony digital photography equipment. In addition, the winner of the Photographer of the Year category will receive a $25,000 cash prize, and the winner of the Open Eye Photographer of the Year category will receive $5,000. All winners and finalists will be exhibited at the annual Sony World Photography Awards in London and elsewhere. The winning work will also be published in the annual Awards book.
