SIGMA Announces First Lens 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM for digital SLR part-frame cameras. The Contemporary lenses combine the latest technological advances in optical performance with a compact design, making them suited to a wide range of uses.

New SIGMA lens offers a 4.1x zoom with a focal range of 25.5 mm to 105 mm in 35 mm format. Designed as an all in one lens for “every day” use in home and travel, this lens is also suitable for creative work. Light power up to F2.8 and wide macro capabilities will resonate with demanding users.

Advanced materials and technologies used in the optical design and mechanical construction. Of the 16 optical elements used in the design, 1 element of special low dispersion SLD-glass, 2 elements of the FLD-glass and 3 aspherical lenses, one of which is double-sided aspherical. Special mention should be made of the unique “fluorite-like” low dispersion glass FLD-glass , whose optical characteristics are almost equal to fluorite.

Soft out-of-focus blur caused by the circular 7-blade aperture. Minimum aperture value provides good aperture ratio and attractive bokeh effect. SIGMA’s multi-coated lenses reduce glare and ghosting, and provide sharp, high-contrast images throughout the zoom range, even in backlit conditions.

In an everyday lens, the small size and weight are important. Adopting a smaller optical stabilization unit and redesigning the optical design made the lens more compact.

New TSC high temperature stable composite material of similar properties to metal, but lower in weight. This resulted in longer-lasting parts and smaller focus and zoom rings. The lens is 30% smaller than its predecessor.

Other top-notch mechanics: Quick ultrasonic autofocus, manual focus ring correction, reinforced brass mount, optical stabilization with unique SIGMA technology, rubberized blade hood fasteners.

When shooting handheld, the optical stabilization function enables slower shutter speeds compensation up to 4 exposures . Optical stabilization is especially valuable in macro photography, where image blur caused by camera shake is particularly noticeable.

Stabilized lens available on SIGMA, Nikon D , Canon. Without optical stabilization available on Pentax and Sony AF mounts D .
