The Panasonic Lumix DC-GX900 is an entry-level mirrorless camera that replaces the DC-GX800, with some minor changes in both design and functionality. The new camera comes with two interchangeable lenses, and will be of interest mostly to fans of selfies and users who publish their photos on social networks.
Like its predecessor, the Lumix DC-GX900 has a 4/3 Live-MOS sensor with 16 megapixels and no low-pass filter. This, coupled with the Venus Engine image processor, delivers the sharpest, most detailed and most accurate color reproduction possible. Sensitivity range from ISO 200 to 25600, expandable to ISO 100 at the lower limit
The Lumix DC-GX900 uses a 49-point contrast AF system with DFD Depth From Defocus to boost AF speed and precision by letting the camera focus on the subject in as fast as 0.07 sec. Electromechanical shutter enables shutter speeds from 60 to 1/16000s and continuous shooting at 5.8 to 10 fps.
The camera has no image stabilization, so in some cases it will be reasonable to use tripod or gimbal, or adequate optics.
The camera body is still plastic, the only difference from the GX800 is the extra grip on the front of the camera. On the top are the mode dial, shutter button with trigger lever, and two function buttons. The microphone and flash remain built in, as in the GX800.
At the bottom there is a tripod socket and a combined battery compartment and micro SD memory card slot. On the right side is a cover, which hides the microHDMI and microUSB port. On the back are the screen, a mode dial, movie recording button and a third function button.
Battery capacity is enough for 210 shots, if necessary it can be charged directly through the microUSB port , using an external power source. The camera has an LCD screen with Live View function as a viewfinder. It’s the same as the GX800, with a 3-inch touch screen and 1.04 million pixels.
Tilting the screen 180 degrees automatically takes a selfie and one of the function buttons is used as a shutter release, conveniently located under the right hand.
The Lumix DC-GX900 comes with two LUMIX G VARIO 12-32mm F3 interchangeable lenses.5-5.6 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S and LUMIX G 25mm F1.7 ASPH. The 25mm lens blurs the background gently and is good for portraits, while the 12mm to 32mm zoom lens is perfect for landscapes and architecture and also makes it easier to get clearer pictures in low light, thanks to optical stabilization. Both lenses are compact, lightweight and manually adjustable.
The Lumix DC-GX900 has extensive creative filtering and mode options, including 4K Photo, Post Focus, Focus Stacking and L modes, that offer similar functionality to the GX800. Monochrome.
4K Selfies” and retouching features such as “Smooth Skin,” “Blur,” “Slimming Mode,” and “Beauty Retouch” post-processing are still available in selfies mode. The Lumix DC-GX900 now makes it possible to use these functions in normal shooting mode.
Other changes in software processing include the advent of 4K Selphy Wide Angle mode and Nightscape & Self-shooting .
The new “4K Selphy Wide Angle” mode makes the most of the 12-32mm lens angle of view, getting full wide-angle shots, allowing you to fit as much detail as possible into the frame. Before that, pictures you took were cropped all the time.
New “Nightscape & Self-shooting” mode captures detailed night shots as well as night portraits. When shooting night portraits, the camera takes a series of shots without flash and one shot using flash to make the person stand out in detail. The best shot in the burst is then combined with the one taken with the flash.
The Lumix DC-GX900 has a built-in Wi-Fi module that lets you remotely control the camera using the Panasonic Image app installed on a smartphone or tablet. The app offers a variety of camera settings and options, such as interval timer photography and the ability to view and share your photos immediately, complete with geolocation information.
The Lumix DC-GX900 also lets you shoot short, five-minute videos in 4K at 30 frames per second. Full HD video is shot with no time limit at 60 frames per second.
