Olympus SH-50 mini-review

The versatile Olympus SH-50 is one of the most balanced and powerful amateur compacts in its class. The developers are especially proud of its unique 5-axis stabilization system, carried over from the OM-D E-M5 system camera.

It actually uses fewer axes in normal still photography, but the SH-50 does wonders in movie mode, letting you record on the move with your hands. Fast, light-sensitive CMOS sensor and the relatively new TruePic VI processor provide Full HD video preservation and high-speed shooting up to 120 frames per second . The device also shows high class in continuous shooting: 11,5 “full” shots per second and up to 60 fps when reducing the picture to 2048×1536 pixels.

The 24x zoom at a focal range of 25-600 mm is enough to solve any problem: both to capture a landscape in the frame and “shoot” a bird on a high branch. Small in size, the SH-50 seems more appealing than most superzooms. Finally, for easy control of the SH-50, in addition to advanced smart electronics, it has a handy touchscreen with focus and tap-to-shoot functions.

This mini-review of the Olympus SH-50 seems interesting, but could you please elaborate on the camera’s low-light performance? I’m particularly interested in how it handles noise and captures details in darker environments.

The Olympus SH-50 is equipped with a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and TruePic V image processor, which allows it to perform well in low-light conditions. The camera has a maximum ISO sensitivity of 6400, which helps in reducing noise in darker environments. The SH-50 also features image stabilization technology, which further enhances its low-light performance by reducing blur caused by camera shake. In terms of capturing details, the camera produces sharp images with good color reproduction even in dimly lit settings. Overall, the Olympus SH-50 is a solid choice for those looking for a compact camera with decent low-light capabilities.
