The E-M5, which launched the OM-D series and was the technical base for all subsequent Olympus mirrorless cameras, including the PEN series, celebrated two years of market presence in February. A couple of months later, the company released a special kit, where this unit is presented in a slightly updated design, and as the lens is the latest professional brightness zoom 12-40/2.8. No significant design changes in the camera. Obviously, the years have had a hand on the E-M5, and itās still popular despite its lack of some of the most up-to-date features.

It beats the younger E-M10 by having an all-weather magnesium body, a proven 5-axis stabilizer thatās especially useful for macro and video, and a jack for external accessories. That said, wireless transmission and Wi-Fi control arenāt familiar to the E-M5, there wonāt be a built-in flash but a simple external blitz is included . The rotating screen is OLED technology, which means itās bright, sunlight-readable and energy efficient, but it doesnāt flash with resolution.
The E-M5 differs from OM-D, the older representative of the series, by the lack of hybrid autofocus, though the algorithms of contrast targeting FAST AF work rather quickly here, by slightly less interesting and flexible hardware control, simpler viewfinder and screen. It captures 9 frames per second instead of 10 and has a slower minimum shutter speed. If E-M1 is for the most part intended for professionals, then E-M5 may well be of interest to photography enthusiasts.
