In response to the growing demand for webcams — as work-at-home and virtual meetings become more common — a beta version of Webcam Utility has been developed that allows mirrorless or Nikon DSLR cameras to be used as webcams.

Users will simply need to install the Webcam Utility software beta on their computer, and connect a compatible Nikon camera body with the USB cable. They can then use their Nikon camera as a webcam.

Compatible cameras: Z 7, Z 6, Z 5, Z 50, D6, D850, D780, D500, D7500, D5600. Future Nikon mirrorless and DSLR camera models should also be compatible with this new software.

The compatibility of the new software with Nikon camera models is not specified, but it would be reasonable to assume that it aims to be compatible with as many models as possible, both old and new. As for the cost, it is unclear whether it will be free or if there will be a charge associated with it. Further information is required to get a clearer understanding. Nevertheless, this development is intriguing and I look forward to learning more about it.
