Nikon D600 review, part 2: I’ll be sharp – with a focusing system like this

A few years ago, pinpoint focusing was the weak point of budget-priced cameras. Often only one central sensor was sensitive to horizontal and vertical lines. Nikon D600 features a 39-sensor system for pinpoint sharpness.

  • 39 focus sensors let you catch the essential detail in focus no matter where it is in the frame.
  • Full sets of all focus modes allow for a 100% guarantee of sharp shots.
  • The high sensitivity of the focus sensors allows you to work with non-focus lenses, avoiding focusing errors.
  • The ability to select a single focus point.
  • No blurred frames. In two weeks of testing the Nikon D600 not a single blurred shot was received..

Among the focus sensors are 9 cross-shaped, with the central portion of the focus metering system sensors that can work with lenses that are not very fast. The most familiar and reliable for us is the single-point focus system in the center of the frame. But if we want a fast-moving subject to be sharp all over the frame, we can activate the other sensors as well, or choose only the point where sharpness is most important, such as on the human eye.

You can do it by pressing the AF mode button with the left thumb and using the joystick to select the desired AF point with the right thumb. True, most of the points are closer to the center, so if your main subject is closer to the edge of the frame, you still have to move your camera.

The camera has the traditional single focus, continuous tracking and automatic modes. And of course, there’s the popular manual focus mode with LiveView precision targeting.

I must say that most photographers choose in typical situations, the first mode, the second is used in difficult changing conditions, preferring themselves to choose the zone of sharpness of the image area. The manual focus is used for tripod shooting.

I had no problem focusing when I was shooting.
