New addition to the Cyber-shot RX line of compact cameras

Sony has unveiled the new flagship model of its popular Cyber-shot RX100 series of compact cameras, the RX100V. The new model boasts the world’s fastest autofocus, the world’s highest number of AF points, and the world’s fastest continuous shooting speed for a compact camera.

Multi-level Sensor

The RX100 V features an Exmor RS™ multi-layer CMOS sensor.0″ with DRAM memory chip, the fast ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mmv F1.8 – 2.8 prime lens and advanced image processing system with a new preprocessor that maximizes processing speed, expands the memory buffer and optimizes image quality, particularly at high ISO settings. The camera also delivers 4K video recording with full pixel readoutvi without pixel aggregation, super slow motion recording at up to 1000 fpsvi with longer recording times, and much more.

Fast Focus, Fast Shooting

For the first time in the RX100 series, the new RX100 V model incorporates Rapid Hybrid AF, which combines the advantages of In-Focus Phase AF and Contrast AF respectively, resulting in the camera focusing in as fast as 0.05 seconds. This high speed of focusing is the perfect complement to the 315 dedicated AF points that cover 65% of the sensor, it ensures that the user can capture the intended subject with speed and precision, even if it is moving rapidly in unpredictable directions.

Processing speed has also been significantly improved by adding a preprocessor chip that perfectly supports the camera’s existing BIONZ X™ image processor. These two components, combined with a powerful autofocus system, allow the camera to continuously shoot at up to 24 fps and capture up to 150 imagesviv at a full 20.1 MP resolution approx. Effective with tracking autofocus/autoexposure. The length of viewfinder darkening between shots in this speed shooting mode has also been minimized, greatly improving the photographer’s ability to follow the quick action and capture the decisive moment. Silent shooting is also available in these speed modes.

Other improvements to the autofocus system of the new RX100 V include the addition of AF-A mode, which allows the camera to automatically switch between continuous and single-frame autofocus modes. Users can also manually enable on-screen playback of continuous and phase autofocus areas while framing an image.

RX100 V camera has a high-speed anti-distortion shutter minimum shutter speed 1/32000 sec. , minimizing the “jelly effect” rolling shutter , which usually occurs when shooting fast-moving objects. This slow shutter speed allows the camera to capture sharp, crystal clear images with the aperture wide open at brightness levels up to EV19.Shooting with a very short shutter speed at a wide open aperture enables photographers and videographers to create beautiful content with sharply focused subjects and defocused backgrounds, even in the most challenging bright light conditions.

New to the RX100 V, users can select an initial magnification ratio for Focus Magnifier function, and choose whether the “magnifier” is placed at the focus point or the center of the screen.

Professional video features

The compact RX100 V is packed with a host of video features to satisfy the most discriminating enthusiast.

The rapid hybrid autofocus system features a phase AF sensor in the focal plane for precise focus and tracking, even with the stringent focus requirements of 4K video shooting. In the menu system, the AF drive speed and tracking AF sensitivity can be adjusted, giving users ample opportunity to customize the focus to their preferences.

In 4K mode, the new RX100 V uses full readout without pixel aggregation to ensure that fine detail is recorded in 4K video with minimal moiré and “jagged”. These high-quality results are achieved through the use of the XAVC S codec, which records video at high speeds of up to 100Mbps in 4K and 50Mbps in Full HD video.

Additional professional-level features include Picture Profile, S-Log2 /S-Gamut, 100p HD Full HD mode, and more. Users also have the ability to manually select a frame from the recorded video and save it as a photo in the file of about 8 megapixels for 4K or 2 megapixels for HD video.

The RX100 V is capable of recording super slow motion videox about 40x slower than normal, and can do so for up to twice as long as the RX100 IV. This extended recording time allows users to capture a series of quick fleeting moments of action with incredible detail, resolution and clarity.

Before shooting, the user can select frame rates of 1000, 500 or 250 fps, and 50p or 25p playback format to best match the speed of the moving subject. Recording button can be used as a “start” button to start recording or as a “stop” button to keep recording until the button is pressed.

Convenient design and high technical level of compact camera

The new RX100 V retains the comfortable design of the other members of the RX100 family and features a high-contrast XGA OLED Tru-Finder™ viewfinder with 2.35 million. Dots that provide the features you need for realistic preview and playback. Electronic viewfinder conveniently folds and retracts into camera body when you want, with viewfinder optics coated with ZEISS® T*.

New camera supports Wi-Fi® and NFC™ and can use a growing number of Sony-developed PlayMemories Camera Applications. Find out more at sony website.net/pmca.

Another convenient addition is that users can now arbitrarily specify the first three characters in the names of saved files for easy sorting and storage organization.

There will be a new dive case model MPK-URX100A which will be available as a separate accessory for the RX100 V and all other RX100 series cameras. Designed exclusively for RX100 cameras, this box allows you to shoot in depths of up to 40m/130ft.
