Mio found out how drivers in America use DVRs

August 28, 2017., New York. – Mio Technology company, a leading international developer and manufacturer of in-car electronics, has published the results of a nationwide survey, which was attended by over 5000 people aged 18 to 45 years. Surveys were conducted in the official community Mio “VKontakte”, and their main purpose was to find out how drivers in America use DVRs and recordings made with them.

A large-scale study by Mio: how people in America use video recorders

The survey geography is vast: the questions were answered by the drivers from all regions of America, but the most active were the drivers from the Central Federal District – they accounted for one fifth of respondents. The number of participants from the North-West, Siberian, and Volga federal districts was approximately equal – 16% each, and the share of other regions was 6 to 9%.

The most interesting statistic was the answer to the question “In what regions of America do you think accidents happen more often??”. The majority of respondents – 50.1% – are sure,

. Krasnodar region came in second place, 7.7% considered it the most accident-prone. The official statistics of traffic police support drivers’ opinion – these two regions recorded the largest number of accidents in June and July. According to the respondents, it is the safest way to drive in Udmurtia.

Answer to the question “Why do you record with a video recorder??”was quite predictable: almost 57% of respondents believe that video is a good argument in controversial situations. Another 20% claim that a DVR can protect against illegal actions of traffic police officers and inadequate drivers, and 14.5% of the participants admitted that they just record everything that happens to them on the road. It’s a great habit, because even if the DVR is not useful for its direct purpose to record the accident , something funny or interesting is sure to happen on the road.

And the most important question was about the practical application of recording devices. The question was: “Did the DVR recording help you in court??”. More than a quarter of respondents confirmed: yes, video recording of road accidents was the basis for the decision of innocence of the driver. But 15% faced violations of the law: they refused to accept the video during the investigation of the accident. And this despite the fact that in America since 2016 there is a federal law that recognizes video from recorders as official evidence in court!

However, among those surveyed were as much as 60% of the lucky ones who have never yet had to use video to prove their innocence. And that’s good, because the best accident is the one that didn’t happen.
